I was looking to put a rear wagoneer d44 in my 83 cj. Ive read that even though the rear waggy 44's look centered they are actually sightly, less that an inch, offset. Anyone confirm this? Will this slight offset even matter in an on road and offroad jeep.

I think it's more like a 2 inch offset. No problems at all with the one in my CJ.

The D44's from 86ish on are close to being centered, as close as any rear axle is (the slight offset is good for the u-joints)

The older ones (UP to 79 with the quadra-drive, IIRC) are offset too much to use with a centered case.

Just center the axle and go to town. I have swapped a couple into Jeeps.
