Along with an LS, I'll be using a 99+ 4l60e 4x4 transmission that is native to the engine in use. Like everything else going into this rig, I'll be taking my time going through everything. My plans are to pick up a good used Trans and rebuild using top of the line internals and a transgo shift kit. I have a good dry place, necessary tools, and I feel moderate mechanical ability to do this. More than anything I want the experience to say "I done it". Is this something a newbie (so to speak) mechanic should attempt? I want to do it right and would rather have more time than money invested.

They're not terrible, but parts of it are a pain in the ass. If you replace every single thing in it....you'll go crazy. I usually clean them out, replace the normal wear items, and let them roll as long as everything looks good and checks out. Monster has a nice rebuild kit. "Monster in a Box". I'd put a new converter in it too.

Word homie.

Had the Transgo shift kit put in my Trailblazer last time I had it rebuilt and I like it. Also switched to the Corvette servo. Good luck with the rebuild and take some video or pics at least!

Sure will. I'm pretty excited about tearing into one. I guess I'll take a chance with one from the local Pull a Part. Theres usually a few in the right year range there. Usually the 4.8 or 5.3 gets grabbed quick and folks just leave the Trans and tcase laying on the ground. Makes it easy. As far as walking upon one and taking it home, is there anything that would make a Trans so bad that it can't be rebuilt? (Besides obvioua case damage or cracking) If so, is there an easy way to tell by looking at the internals? I can tell burnt fluid from the smell.

don't waste your money on a monster kit, i can get any of the parts you need at half the price. the biggest problem you will face are the tools you will need to do the job. when you find your trans, make sure you find a trans to match your ecm year.

Do you offer a built 4L60E?

I need one built (i have a core) and I need it to use my output shaft. Is that something you can offer?

i don't offer rebuilt units. i rebuild what you have, there are too many variables in units anymore to build stock units.

Understood - how much (ballpark) would you charge for a mild build 4wd 4L60E to go behind an LQ9 (I can either bring you my core, or have one sourced locally for you). I would need to supply the output shaft since its one that was provided from Novak to go with my adapter and Atlas input.

I don't need anything crazy - motor is basically just cammed with a few other small odds and ends.
