Curious if anyone using direct deposit has seen their money back yet. My federal showed up Thursday but not the state yet.
It's only a couple bucks but beats paying out.

for the last couple years it's taken 5-6 weeks for me to receive the change I get.

Mine usually gets direct deposited the same day as my federal return, at least the last couple of years it has. Weird thing is, I just checked the status with the state and it says: "Thank you for filing electronically. Your 2013 refund check has been written. Please allow 2 weeks for delivery." It's supposed to be direct deposit.

I guess I should be scared. I used the state's website to check and got this response:
"Please call 1-877-252-3052 for assistance about your refund amount. Select individual income tax and listen for the refund option to speak with an agent"

ITS A TRAP!!!

I'll write my checks on April 15th you can bet your ass on that.
Havent seen a refund in years.

We filed ours 3 weeks ago. I always claim 0 on my work forms so I can avoid paying at the end of the year. I haven't heard any word on ours other than the initial message we got which was " Returns have been slowed due to the Government Shut Down "

I just got my federal today by direct deposit but my state says the same as yours.

what's a tax refund?
Thats when the gooberment realizes they stole to much of your money & gives you a little back. This helps keep you on the hook for next year..

We don't even have all our paperwork yet.

So you would raather pay the govenrment too much 26 or 52 times a year (depending on paycheck frequency) to avoid paying them 1 time a year?

Not in income I assure you...but reading through some of the responses Im wondering about in sanity.

Anyone who is getting a refund ask yourself this question.
Did you pay 1 penny in interest last year on a credit card, store charge card, heck even a house, car, boat, atv payment?
If so you balled money up and threw it away. You gave the government money at 0% interest for a year while you paid a bank.

Years ago the wife and I used to be involved with financial counseling deal through our church (it was similar to the Dave Ramsey FPU but was not his class) and we would council couples. At the time we were 25 and we were "Advising" folks in their 50s.

I'll never forget a man and woman crying..literally tears running down their face when they said we HAVE to sell our house we cant afford it. We looked at their budget and they didnt have a penny to spare. Their house payment was small, like $350/month small. Then the husband startign relaying that last year he was 9 months behind but was "blessed to be able to catch up when his $12,000 tax return check came back"...Once I got him to realize he had paid the government $1,000 per month he didnt need to and by changing those numbers he'd have $1,000 extra in his budget every month his whole outlook changed. Hell he was paying 2.5 house payments to the government every month.

I still see that guy at the local diner about once a month and to this day every time he sneaks up tot he waitress and grabs my breakfast tab. I stopped him and asked him why and he explained that they started keeping their tax returns and paid their house off in like 3 years...the savings were enough to allow his wife to quit work (she was beyond retirement but otherwise couldnt afford to)

Heck if anyone really wants to give interest free loans away, I will gladly offer 1%. Just send me a check every month, Ill pay you bacck in march +1%...you will be ahead...

I always wait until the end of March or first few days of April to file and write my check to Uncle Sam. I feel if I pay or receive back +\- $500 then I am perfect. If I get back more than that the the gubment got my money for free too long, if I have to pay more than that the gubment can sometime get pissy about under payment during the year.

Um I'm pretty sure thats just a measure of being fiscally conservative and stretching every penny you can get.

Ideally, the most fiscally advantageous thing you can do is to owe as much as possible right up just a hair below the underpayment penalty line.

Practically though you have to be waaay up in the income bracket for this to really make a huge difference in $$... although there is also clear value in not giving teh gov't a dime more than is necessary

Got mine today... I just have to pay it and then some to the state by April.

What happened to [law?] having your forms by Jan 31 ? That's the day I got my former employer W2s. Got my mortgage Feb.3. I've had to call Social Security & my annuity, to get my info!
Just got mine filed Wednesday.:(

Jan 31 is apparently the day they have to send it... e.g. dropped in mail. That was a Fri.

Yes thats frustrating, every year I have everything done and ready to go by about the 10th, but the State waits until Jan 31 to mail my wife's W-2.
I''m all set up to file, just have to hit submit.

Apparently I made too much this yr.. I usually get under a grand back but this yr they took my wife's return and I still have to pay in almost 3 grand.... just sucks to have a great year and be black balled at the end.. but it is what it is.

My Buddy who is an older fellow moved down here from a city where the mob ran everything. He came down, became a legitimate business guy opening a junkyard. He would always say to me around this time every year " I miss the mob, at least then I knew what I had to pay every week to stay in business and if I missed a payment I got beat up a little. With the government I never know until the end of the year and if I don't pay that take my house, my ability to feed my kids,my business, everything other than my life, no wait they get that too, they just take it with Prison...."
