recomend a tire for my needs

Truck is a 96 ram 2500 with 5.9 gas, 5 speed manual, 4.10s and will need new tires. It has 315/75/16s on it with factory narrow steel wheels. It has a homemade tube bumper and appears to not have any lift.

I was tracing down a front end vibration so I put on some cooper at3s in 235/85/16 on some 7 inch wide wagon wheels and they are tiny. I will use the truck for towing/daily driving and uwahrrie two or three times a year.

I like the at3s but they don't make them in an e load in 315/75/16 and I'd like e load tires. So what's some opinions on this? I may like to get some black d window wheels in 8 wide's but I DO NOT like my wheels and tires outside the body lines.

Maybe down the road I will level the front end from the bumper and winch but that's it. No big lift for me. So what would y'all do?
 
Don't be afraid of load range D. I've seen E range tires rated at 2500lbs each, and D range tires rated at 3300lbs+.
 
Get cooper at3s , if you need e range tires with a 5.9 gasser your tongue has,to.much weight

i like my BFG AT the ride is great & last a long time on my F350 4x4 DRW 7.3L
just my .02
 
I'm a big fan of Cooper tires. I want a set of STTs for my Silverado. They make the STT in a 315/75-16 Load E.

If you can afford them BFG AT. They will last longer than the cooper. AT3 is a good tire for the price, keep them rotated often X pattern. Don't expect to get good life from them if you do a lot of curvy road driving. We install a lot of AT3's and they are decent, but here in the MTN's they normally don't wear over 20K.
 
For one, never x rotate , thats not rotating. Front to x to back ., back two go straight foward . Only way to rotate.


For two bfg is a a,worthless tire for over 30k miles unless you have a diesel. Lighter the truck the less miles youll get .

At3 is made for flat staight hwys , if its,curvy area hes is absolutely right 20k to 30k miles


But town highway expect 55k miles

Bfg is a great tire but the price doesnt reflect the quality.

So far I've loved my at3s on my 73f250. Here in eastern NC is going to be all highway until I hit uwharrie a few times a year. Mostly I'm not sure what size to run.

I have the narrow 6.5 wide steel wheels or the factory steel 8 inch wide wheel. The factory ones are the "swoosh" style if that makes cents without pics.

I've been liking how the truck turns the 235/85/16s that I put on temporarily so I'm not sure if I want to go 315 or maybe step down a size so the truck turns them better.

I would also prefer not to have to buy new wheels, the plain jain d windows are expensive for this guy compared to a jeep or Toyota.

So I guess what size should I look for 80% daily driving 10% towing and 10% uwharrie?
 
You can do a 285/75-16 (32.8x11), 305/70-16 (32.8x12), or 315/75-16 (34.6x12.4). Those are pretty common sizes and if you didn't know, an odd sized tire will almost certainly cost more. Any of those will serve you well. With the first two sizes it just depends on what width you want, the last size is obviously taller and wider.

Between a BFG AT and a Cooper AT3, I'd go with the Cooper if you're worried about them being grippy. Hankook MTs have done very well in several tire tests and I've narrowed it down to those or the Cooper STT. You haven't really said if you want an AT or an MT, but around here, either will do fine. If you're anything like me and have more than one vehicle, any tire you put on a truck will last 5-6 years and probably dry rot before you wear them out.
 
Look into the Dick Cepek FC-II's. I've got a set on my truck right now, and they have been fantastic in every regard. They are quiet for how aggressive they are, and wet and dry grip are extremely good. They have been wearing very well, and they start out with more tread depth than just about anything out there. Also, load range D is rated at 3300lbs for them, so they meet that requirement. Mine are "blemishes" so I got em for under $200/ea for 285's.

My experience has been the total opposite. Every diesel I've seen with BFG A/Ts has went through them in less than 30k miles. My dad has a set of 33x10.50s on an 80 F-150 and they're about to hit 80k miles.

X2. My Ram CTD wore a set of BFG AT's down to the wear bars in under 30k miles. Stock truck, and I do not drive it hard
 
Also I don't know if they still make them but firestone made a tire called a transforce. I had a coworker who had them on a gas F250 and they did awesome in the snow and lasted like 50K here in the mountains. Also bridgestone AT revo is an awesome looking tire.

Firestone still makes the Transforces. They have a few different tread patterns too! A/T, H/T, etc. It's their heavy/commercial pickup tire and a lot of people like to run them on bigger trailers. I like the Firestone TransForce A/T. Very deep tread, definitely Load Range E, and they'll last a long time. That was all my uncle ever ran on his 2003 F250 crew cab diesel. 70K miles per set and he put 307,000 miles on that truck.
