So I had Chimney swifts in my chimney and I think they are gone now...I need to get the chimney cleaned out before we start building fires...anyone know of a good place to start? Need someone that services the triad.
Anyone have an idea on what the going rate on getting a chimney cleaned out is now?

Invest in a brush to match your flu and a few fiberglass rods from your local hardware for less than one chimney sweep bill.
I swept mine yesterday in about fifteen minutes and that included cleaning out the bottom of the chimney. I've been doing my own for years.
Now if you want them to take video of your flu and do an inspection I guess call a pro sweeper.

I just want to make sure that they get out all the stuff the Chimney swifts left behind...I hear that some people make soup out of the nests they build....not my cup of tea, but God bless.

After you unhook at the bottom and shine a good light down from the top you will see just as much as any chimney sweep would. The trick is a brush trimmed to be the exact same shape as the chimney. It's fool proof from there. And for like $50 compared to $250...

I've got about $18 in my set up. Im only one floor so I used a chimney brush and a section of 1.5 PVC instead of the fiberglass rods.

I sweep mine and a few friends every year.

You may be right. We used one of these on my cousins chimney last year and it seemed to do a good job at cleaning the soot and chunks of creasote out. But im thinking it had been a few years since he had cleaned it out.

Call this guy...

I've heard of old timers dropping a rope down the chimney and tying a small length of chain to it. Pull it up and drop it several times to clean.

There is a zero cost option.
