Recommend me a family SUV

Small size/reliable/capable/good light tow vehicle=99+ Grand Cherokee

Mid size and 4wd/mod off-road capable(look awesome lifted)/light towing capable/reliable/goes like a tank in the snow=Commander. Fuel mileage isn't the best but my Hemi gets a solid 13 in town and 19 highway.

Large with room to grow into/capable tow vehicle/good 4wd/fairly reliable= Tahoe/Yukon or even a 'Burb if you need lots of room.

Yeah my 2000 grand is what I'm replacing...hopefully

Definitely go drive the Xterra.

My wife loves it ( so do I)

It's powerful and comfortable. lots of room especially wuth the seats folded down and can tow #5000

Not to mention a well equiped 4wd automatic is like 23-24k.

You should have just asked everyone what they drive. You'd get the same results.

I'd recommend a 1995 Ford E150 high top conversion van, but I only get like 13mpg................everywhere.

yeah that's terrible. I'm finding out that stealerships are awfully proud of their 07-08 models. May have to look into the private sector. So far we've looked at some nice rides but nothing out of the park at this point.

I still say try a Commander. I fell in love with mine and even after 4 years it drives like new and is a blast to drive. The Hemi is a beast! I still haven't pushed it to its limit. The 09 5.7 Commanders have the same tuning as the SRT Hemi, just a little less horses.

Although he said she doesn't drive much they were looking for "decent" MPG. What kind of MPG does a Commander get?

I don't own a 3.7 but I hear they get 15town/21highway. The 4.7 is a little better. I own the Hemi and I get a solid 13 in town here in the mountains(no flat roads in our town anywhere) I have gotten as much as 21 on a long highway trip. Proof in the pic! 67mph/2000rpm is the sweet spot. My XK has the tow package and is geared 3.73, I have QT2(no electric limited slips). Most all Hemi XK's have QD2(with e-slips) I ordered mine as simple as I could get it and still have the Hemi. Its a limited and does have the self leveling H.I.D.'s, leather, nav but other than that, its bare bones stock. I love it, my wife loves it more than her JK but she doesn't get good mileage out of it like I do. I run 89 octane E-10

We got my wife a 2010 Outback. Got 33mpg on our first trip with it down to the Columbia Zoo with our little girl. Very comfy, good amounts of space, more ground clearance than a new cherokee, and it's a Subaru so you can expect it to last with regular upkeep.

Outback has more ground clearance than a Cherokee...lol that is funny.

Congrats on the buy glad your happy with it.

this has been tossed around. I'm not a big station wagon kinda guy but my wife thinks they're not too bad. We both agree no minivans but this might be an option. I like Scooba-boobs.

Again, Forester might be a good compromise here. Height of a van/SUV but style/handling of a car.

Alternatively if you don't need a lot of SUV-style power, there is also the Mazda5 "microvan"... we have one specifically b/c we refused to get a classic family van. Handling is definitely car-like. Basically a Madza3 chassis w/ a bigger body. Not a "big car" by any means.

If your wife agrees to a Forester and starts to suggest bringing another woman into the bedrrom, be wary.....................

Depends on if they let you play or not. There was an episode of Friends with a similiar concept. It didn't turn out to well well for the M in the FMF. (M)FF.

did you seriously just refer to an episode of Friends... on an offroad enthusiasts site? maybe time to hand in the man card.

buy a 4runner!

sent from deep space via galaxy S 2

I like the lines of the 4Runner vs the Highlander. At least the new ones. The old Highlander looks like a CRV.

I did. And I'm not ashamed to admit it. Find me a show with as many hot chcicks wearing tight shirts. My man card is staying right where it is. In my gun safe...................;)

My wife "makes me" watch Friends with her, she got all the seasons on DVD for Christmas. I always complain until Jennifer Aniston shows up, then I just shut up.

I know this is the internet where we all have 10" winkies and only bang supermodels, but c'mon man............
Agreed....Kudrow would get the bone while the wife watched....but I like tall blondes.
