Putting tires on my son's XJ today and in the middle of it all my jack won't drop. Handle spins freely so we take it off. Of course the handle is rounded out where it goes over the nut. Put a socket on it and the valve is nearly froze up. So now I'm looking for a new one. I've had mine for years 15 or 17 never a problem don't even know the brand as it was given to me by a friend who didn't have a garage anymore.

I read through some old posts from 06 11 and 13 all were about HF, Crapsman, TSC and the Sam's Michellin jack. Just wondering if anyone has had luck with any of them over the last few years.

Hf jacks work pretty good try to find it on sale and use a coupon they seem to be getting pricey

Gonna do some more research. It was made in 1996 I've gotta find out what it was.

Allied is the brand and looks like others last a long time too from a quick Google search, people getting 20 yrs . Bet they don't make them the same anymore though

Borrowed a friend's Torin 3 ton. My son actually thought it was sketchy. Very flat "cup" and the arm and whole jack was flexing/twisting.

I'm going to tear into mine and see if I can repair it. When you replace it can I get parts from it if I find what's wrong. Mine still holds.pressure.

I have an arcan 3 ton from northern tool. Handles 1 ton trucks on a regular basis for the past 5-6 years.

I've got this same jack, bought it at SAMS CLUB in '97, yes the handle did round out, I welded a socket into the handle, and lubed the nut after taking it out cleaning it up. its been abused for 20 years, and it still works, a reasonable $70 spent !

I've been using a similar 3 ton for 18 years. Not sure of brand, nut theyre pretty much all the same.
While the thing has been bcc a great workhorse, i find myself really wanting something lighter. Im tired of dragging that heavy ass thing all aroind. And if you have to pick it up... forget it. Hernia coty.
I say, take a look at the alimonim jacks. HF has some nice ones now, and frequently on sale.

From experience- don't buy craftsman. Mine is junk, just after a few years. My HF jacks are still going strong. Best one that I have is an old used one I got a while back. Brand is unknown. It's built 'the way they used to make things'.

Ok just a little bit of time and fab work. Hopefully another 19 years!. I cut the end off a China Charlie wrench and opened up the jack handle end so it fits down in and weled it in place. A little cleaning and lube it is probably better than most from what I'm reading. While I too would like an Aluminum but this thing is solid and only this time has it "let" (not) me down. Money well saved I hope.
