I got a few hundred pounds I'm scrapping now. (I'm in the computer business).
You have to strip them down and sort the pieces, and have a lot of them. Also can't find anybody local really buying for good prices, have to shop off (maybe figure 50 cents/lb for shipping). With they guy I'm dealing with, high-end boards (motherboards, pci cards, etc) go for $4 to 4.50 a pound. CPU's much more ($10 to 120 per pound). RAM $15 per pound. Hard drives with boards about a dollar a pound.
I'm trying to fill up a gaylord so can ship cheapest per lb.
Power supplies are worthless just about (low end boards). Stuff like that, cases, etc net about 10 cents a pound. Not worth shipping, of course. I give them to a friend that does scrap steel, he gets what he can for the leftovers.
There are a couple of places I found in Raleigh and Durham that buy whole pc's for about .10 per pound. Hardly worth the gas unless you are nearby.
Be careful with the "cash for electronics" type websites (like the cash for gold places)...read where one guy sent in about 50# of motherboards...they paid him about ten bucks (should have been a couple hundred).
Also, seriously, if you want to deal with ebay, folks there will pay more than the stuff is worth. List is as "scrap electronics for gold recovery".
...and...I don't know of anybody buying monitors. You'll do good to find somebody that'll just take them.
How many pc's do you have? I just broke down about 50 of them. Could strip one down pretty quick. Not sure if I'll make minimum wage by the time it's all said and done.
