Red Rover - 88 Blazer

Put Cabela trail gear seat covers on it. Looks nice for $20 and semi water resistant. Covers the missing plastic bit on passenger side.

Hi, first post.

I had an 88k5 for a long time. The stock tpi 350 are not super powerful but they just work. Mine had 3.08 gears 33's and an auto , I eventually swapped in a sm465/205 and tons with 3.73and 38.5. It did well here in Jersey.

Also does that have a truck tailgate on it?

Yes, he put it on / swapped brackets, I think from an 86 truck. Looks nice on there and I have the blazer tailgate as well to eventually fix up (new motor, missing bits, etc) Can see a bit of daylight between fenders and tailgate when I look backwards, might be some 'seals' that would normally close that off a bit more but just adds character (and possibly exhaust fumes!?) But doors off and the soft top down all summer, exhaust fumes won't matter a whole lot anyway!! :)

Haha, I also ran mine with no top and no doors, sorta. With no doors at all anything on the floor would just roll out (flat floor unlike a jeep) so I made a set of 1/4 doors from a spare set. Basically just ran a sawzall straight across at the top of the bottom hinge.

If you don't mind I'd like to get up some time and check this thing out. I need to paint my 4runner and would like to see their work in person.

That would be fine, send me direct message, you can drop by or meet somewhere, I live in Kernersville and work in Greensboro.

Been a few weeks, got the transfer case rebuilt by Billys Transmission in High Point, NC ($675) and rolled over the odometer a week or so back!! So it is BRAND new again!? Just over 1100 miles on it now since I bought it, no actual snow to drive in since then.

One thing I am thinking some of the "old school" guys on here might remember how to do or make suggestions? I bought those trim / beauty rings, brand new and they are fighting me something fierce about actually going on the wheel? I tried putting one side in and banging the other. Tried to hit it all in at once (both sides at once...) so far all it has done is make nice scratches in the black paint on my wheel? Suggestions would be appreciated, thinking about a + shaped piece of wood or something where i can try to hit in middle and spreads impact to the whole ring at once!?

Waiting for warmer temps too to put on the new trim down the tailgate and passenger side. Recommended 70 degrees at LMC truck!?

So far it has been a GREAT "pickup truck!" Folded up the rear seat and you can put a bunch of crap back there.

I use a rubber hammer to pop them on if My hand want another person helps too if there stubborn and the scratches is what they do

Ok after beating the SNOT out of that trim ring with the rubber mallet to the point it was a bit oval I decided to go with plan B. Basically there is a V shaped piece of metal all around the inside that is supposed to "clip" nicely into the groove on the rally wheel. When they ship these from the factory, they have just too much 'spring' in that V shape, maybe in a perfect world they would all bend exactly right and clip in instantly and hold tightly forever!

However in MY world, I used pliers to work my way around the trim ring to flatten out all of those V to something closer to II and THEN starting closer to the point it needed I was actually able to get that bent, oval shaped trim ring on my wheel! With that in mind I started by bending the V clips down on 2nd one and it went on much faster!

A new picture with updated look, rear center caps would not go on, will have to remove my lugnuts since they flare out at bottom just enough to keep the cap from slipping over them. Of course the good part about that will be they won't come back off too quickly either!

I think the chrome dresses up the pig just a bit, will follow up when they are all on there, wanted to see if I lost any going down the road first because I bent those clips back.

As they (never) say in the woods, "Chrome will get you home!!"

Sorry I am just now seeing this.
Good look. Im a fan.

On the trim rings, what I do is place the bottom 3rd of the ring in the wheel and secure it at the 5 o'clock and 7 o'clock with my knees so I am essentially kneeling on the trim ring.
Then I use my left hand and press the 10 o'clock position into seat and use my right hand to strike the 2o'clock position in.

Not sure if that makes sense. Its a bit of a dance but after doing it forever it feels second nature.
Those also dont look like OEM rallys where the beauty rings were designed for so your rim may have been fighting you.
