Finally got a tach installed, where should I set the redline at?
I'm not going to just rev it till it pings, so where is it? my guess is 5g's? that right or is it higher?

If built right, about twice that. I don't know much about them but I've seen one smoke bearings at 12,000. Dude changed bearings and came back the next weekend to do it again. Tuff motors!

Stock you'll run out of power ( pointless to go any higher at tha point ) at about 4300rpm, with the sweet spot being about 3800

Good header, exhaust, cam and valve springs, 5200 is reasonable, but starts dropping off about 4800

with balancing and flow work, they will spin MUCH higher, but the oiling system can't keep up and you waste #3 crank main pretty regular. and it goes away from there.

2zj is the shittiest engine toyota ever made

I've built several 22re, from stock to about 325hp, you can't safely take one over 8500 with lots of work, turbo oil pumps help a lot and using the right oil has a lot to do with it too. they are very tough motors. My next will be bored .120 over, they are thick blocks. Lazy as hell though

I think I could turn one up to around 8k and spray and it would hold together.

As long as you cross your fingers and wear your saftey glasses.
