My refrigerator isn't cooling as it used to but the freezer freezes like always. Is there something I can check on it or is it going bad and time to replace?
Fridge just draws cold air from the freezer section, there is a vent top and bottom between the 2 compartments. This just happened to us...had a bag on the top shelf of the fridge section that was blocking the vent, so cold air wasn't circulating thru that compartment. Cleared the vent, solved the problem. (this on a side by side)
Mines a top freezer model. Also its over 20 years old, think its time to look for a new one . Made sure nothing was in the way of any vents, took off the drain hose and made sure it wasn't clogged, and ran a hair dryer over where the drain comes out of the freezer ( someone told me it may be frozen). So far no change in the way its running.
I just recently fixed a fridge for a friend of mine doing the same thing. The condenser fan under neath the fridge had quit working and the condenser coil was clogged up. blew it out and replaced the fan now its working fine. She went and bought a new one anyways so its now in my garage chilling my beer like a good fridge....
I agree with kaiser, 90% of the time my wife says it's broke she has it so stuffed the vent is blocked. Blowing of the coils and checking the fan would be a good idea and preventative maintenance.
