Will scout D30 gears work in a CJ D30?

Basically I need to get 3.73 in my CJ to match my D44 rear. I've found a scout D30 with 3.73s. Is there a possibility of being able to avoid some of the trickier parts of regearing by using the carrier et all from the scout D30? What parts should I order?

Also, I want to put a spool in the D44. What's the downside to the mini spool. I realize a full spool is most likely stronger, but how much stronger?

i am not real familiar with the dana 30's you are speaking of, but i do know that chevy dana 44 carriers spiders won't interchange, and carrier bearings are different sizes then a jeep, and as far as mini spools go i run one in my 14 bolt FF with 38's and haven't had any problems but mine is a trail only rig. You will be very hard on your tires with a mini spool and driving on pavement

Scout Dana 30 same as CJ dana 30 as far a ring & pinion & carriers.
You will need the low ratio carrier from the scout as well as the ring & pinion.
As far as I know all low pinion Dana 44 internals (ring&pinion, carriers, bearings, spiders) will work in any dana 44. High pinion & low pinion of course are different styles of ring & pinions. There may be some differences in the late model aluminum housing Grand Chero D44's and of course the new JK's dana 44. But basically the centersection of all older D44's (low pinion) are the same.
Mini spools drive the wheels via the cross shaft, a weak design in my opinion.

i don't want to high jack this thread but are you sure about the dana 44's all being the same. I ordered a 5.38 ring and pinion, and carrier without spider gears off of ebay that supposedly came out of a j-10 dana 44. The ring gear would swap over to my chevy carrier. But bearings i had for my chevy carrier were bigger then the ones on the carrier from ebay. The spider gears for the chevy carrier would not go in the j-10 carrier. So the only similarity was the fact that the ring and pinion would fit on either carrier. Are you sure enough to say that somebody sent me something other then a dana 44 carrier???

Sonnds to me like you may have gotten a 10 bolt carrier, some people used to refer to them as Chevy's Dana 44.
I have swapped gears & carriers from Dana 44's between Scouts, Jeeps, & chevys for years and never encountereed a difference.
None of my parts catalogs list a difference for internals except for the D44HD found in ther rear of Corvettes , Jaguars & vipers.
Or they could be spider gears from a tracloc verses an open carrier.

yep, i guess somebody got me, i know i have a dana 44, and since then i have geared a couple others and haven't seen any differences. It is good to know foresure that will help me with everybody else too. Sorry for the high jacked thread
