Has anyone on this forum dealt with the procedures to get a truck imported and registered with DMV in NC? I am planning to import a 1984 model RHD truck which should not have a problem clearing with US customs (using a reputable import agent who will provide me with the 3461 and 7501 customs release forms), but wondering what paperwork and challenges I might run into with the DMV to get a US Title for it and have it registered for use in NC. Along with the custom entry forms I will have the foreign registration document from the seller as well as my copy of the sales contract (like a bill of sale). I'll add the vehicle is factory stock except for the bumpers (tube steel style, a front bull bar and rear tire carrier) - no concern passing NC Safety inspection, and will have full Hagerty insurance.

NC DMV inspector is just one step in the process. I've registered a Canadian 1980 Kawasaki motorcycle with the indemnity bond process. Never registered in the US, but purchased locally. I bought it with a bill of sale and mfg statement of origin.

Once your through customs, nc dmv should be relatively easy. The Vermont DMV title process is well documented in motorcycle forums online. I'm riding another bike with the green plate and registration now, so can't speak to the entire process yet.

Second giving them a call. Buddy brought over a truck of his own from South Africa and the tax turned out to be more than the truck was "worth"
