Picked up some really nice surface mount relays at the recycling day at Rides this weekend. My question is this. The triger side says 12v. the output side says 25a 240acv. Can this be used on a 12 v output??? ie I know I can triger the one side with 12v and grd but can I use 12volts to "connect" on the output rather than ac voltage??? What would be the amperage rating??

Is the coil 12v AC or DC? That can make a difference. I believe it will work with DC even if it's an AC coil, but you may see some smoke when the rectifying diode burns up. Try it. If it still works after that, you're golden. As for the contacts, they're just a switch. It will handle DC voltage, but I believe your current rating is somewhat diminished. I've never seen the formula for conversion, but I think they'd be good for at least 10 amps. Post up the part number.

It's a crydom model d 2425...
Says ac voltage only on the output side so maybe I didn't find something cool....

Nice parts there Snappy!

While this page speaks toward "switches" rated for VAC used in VDC applications, thats all a relay is anyways...

DC Rule of Thumb
For those switches that list an AC voltage rating only, the "DC Rule of Thumb" can be applied for determining the switch's maximum DC current rating. This "rule" states the highest amperage on the switch should perform satisfactorily up to 30 volts DC. For example, a switch which is rated at 10A 250VAC; 15A 125VAC; 3/4HP 125-250VAC, will be likely to perform satisfactorily at 15 amps up to 30 volts DC (VDC).
