So I just got my sisters car back from the shop and $800 later it still drives like a scalded dog. Im trying to find something better for her on gas but that is also dependable and can take a beating... With that said, she is on her 4th Ford Exploder and this one seems like it is going to live up to the name. Shes not good at maintaining vehicles so I think this time around I am going to use that AMS oil since she never gets her oil changed. Shes prefers SUVs so she can drive over stuff - curbs, people, gas pumps - whatever gets in her way (she just needs ground clearance not the 4x4).

Any ideas? I was thinking something along the lines of a Toyota rav4 or some kinda honda 6cyl SUV or maybe even an old beater she can just tear the :poop: out of and then replace it later down the road..

On another note - anyone looking for a well used Exploder 4x4 V8 w/ only 120k miles? :shaking:

I feel your pain. Neither my wife, nor my daughters, perform their necessary operators maintenance on the vehicles they drive. Keeps me so busy that my Jeep is getting neglected.

No offense, but it sounds like she is the problem... not the Exlporer. Maybe her money would be better spent on some classes on vehicle maintenance. Or you could sit her down and illustrate the expense of taking care of the vehicle she has vs the expense of buying another one.

Having said that... I vote XJ. They're cheap. Parts are cheap as well. They'll run for a long time with minimal regular maintenance. And what maintenance they require could be done at home (if she ever felt inclined to take care of it).

X2 on lessons. What is this doing to her insurance? How many people's days has she ruined by driving like an ignorant ass? How long driving a hulking SUV until somebody ends up dead? I say put her in a Corolla and make her figure out how to keep it alive. If she wrecks it, she can fix it. If she can't afford to fix it, she can walk or ride the bus.

Maybe you could find her a used school bus. Plenty of metal and good ground clearance.

I agree, that would be perfect.. cept for the fact that shes a terrible driver (doesnt pay attention) and would probably plow through a few cars with it!

She wouldnt attend those classes cause like most folks she ignorant to the fact that she is a bad driver.. :shaking: But i think an XJ would be good, that was her first car and we shared it. A nice 89 2 dr.. I babied it, she trashed it......

Well she did alot of side damage to this exploder, and I know its not the cars fault, guess she just likes beating on Fords - who doesnt!?? But she has no hits on her insurance so Im told her to claim it, then sell the car and get something else...

Youre all right though, i XJs are cheap, easy to work on and take a beating. I think Ill start looking for her....

Go ahead and figure in the price for a Start/Neutral safe switch too. Im sure you'll need one.

91 AND UP xj, 4.0, AW4. 91 AND UP YOU GET THE 4.0 hO with the better cooling system, they take a beating and keep going.

Wow... Whos paying for all her cars?

Get her an XJ, as said, 91+ but also pre 2000, the 2000 and 2001 are prone to head problems, and make up some "Student Driver, Watch out" Stencils, paint it on the doors, hatch, and hood.

Maybe that will embarass her into driving better, and warn other drivers that she shouldnt be behind the wheel

Everytime the oil is due for change, or other maintenance, pull one of the spark plugs, she will call you complaining, tell her to change the oil and youll come fix it.

Oh, when you said bulletproof I thought you ment something like this one that was in our shop a few weeks ago...literally bulletproof...most of the body is 3/8" plate. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic.

Get her a pre mid 70s fullsize truck or car!! or any older Toyota w lowish miles, and tell her to take the bus more often!! Who's her eye doctor?? does she have auto insurance?? No vehicle w tires can stand up to a lousy driver too long!!!:driver:

Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he'll eat for a life time.
or
Give her a car and she'll drive till she tears it up, teach her to respect her car, and she'll be cruising for a long time.

Not sure how old you are, or how old your sister is. but, at any age if she always has something handed to her she will never have any respect for it. Let her earn her own money and have to spend that money on repairs and replacement, and they will be fewer and fewer as time passes.

Let her buy her own car. When she bitches about having to walk maybe she will learn.

You might want to look into an S10 with a 2.8. Say what you want to about them being dog engines, but they won't die. My wife has about 400K on hers and it gets terribly neglected. She never checks the oil and it has been going for about 2 months now with a leaking water pump, but it still runs.

Yes I know I should fix the water pump but it went out the day before I threw my back out and I am still having trouble bending for long periods of time.
