relocated radiator problem

I relocated the radiator to the bed on my 80 toyota truggy. Everything worked fine before, but now it is overheating. I used 1.5 in tubing for the line with flex hoses on each end. The lower hose is hot at the engine, but not at the rad. I guess there could be air in the system. Would that cause this to happen?

yea air in the lines could cause. also lack of airflow across the radiator could cause overheating. is your reservior or pressure cap higher than the top of your engine. if not, you could have air in the system.

The radiator cap is the highest point by at least a few inches. Airflow is definatly not the issue. It seems like the coolant isnt flowing through the radiator. I was wondering if air in the system would cause that. I dont think the rad is stopped up,but i guess its possible. It wasnt went I took it out.

Edit: I should clarify, I have an electric fan that works really well. So I know airflow isnt it.

sounds like air in the lines...

park it on a hill so that the engine is definitely lower than the radiator... let it run until the thermostat opens and then crack the cap to see if fluid is moving/low... keep it full...

It sounds like you have air in the system.

I used one of these in my upper hose at the highest point in the engine compartment.

You can then fill the system from both ends.

My lower hose coming off the water pump went down, back up over my frame, and then back down outboard of the frame. I took a 4" piece of pipe, drilled a hole in it, welded a nut to it over the hole, and stuck a bolt in it and placed it in the high spot of that hose so I could bleed the air out of that section of pipe while I was filling it. I never had a problem with my system by doing these things.

drkelly, thats a good idea.

It was just a bunch of air in the system. I jacked the rear up about 18 inches and ran it until all the air was out. Then I pulled a bunch of kids around the block on the sled :driver:
