remote control car/truck for 4 yr old boy

Thinking about getting my boy a remote control car/truck for Christmas. He just turned 4 years old. I don't want some cheap junk that will break Christmas day. Anyone have a model they would recommend? Also, where to buy it?

I'm thinking more of a normal car or truck, not a crawler. From the little bit of investigating I have done, it sounds like a lot of the 'toy' store level ones have bad reviews for quality and battery life like Jay posted about in his thread. I did a little searching and discovered that they re-released a lot of the cars that used to be popular back in the 80's like the Grasshopper, Hornet, and Frog. It looks like it is about $200-$250 to get into one of those though with all the accessories, which I am a little apprehensive about with a 4 year old who breaks a lot of stuff.
 
Traxxas Slash or Stampede. I've owned a Slash and I tried to break it every time I drove it and I never did. Just get the basic 2wd brushed motor version. If he likes it, you can upgrade it as he gets older. If he doesn't like it, you can have a blast playing with it until he decides he wants it. Should be less than $250 for a new one. Plus every hobby store carries Traxxas so parts are cheap and easy to get.

I want to pick up a brushless 4wd Slash to bash around.
 
I picked up Grave digger and Son of a Digger at Hobby Town in Charlotte last year for my son and I. They might be a little fast for a 4 year old, but they've been incredibly tough and held up to our almost daily abuse. They are the Traxxas models, I think based on the Stampede. Tons of fun to drive and great to jump. They were $215 a piece and we have gotten way more fun out of them that that. Here is a link to one on Ebay.

I have two boys, a 4yo and a 7yo. My 7yo saved uo his money this last year and bought a Dromida hobby RC car. It is basically a smaller version of the bigger hobby cars you can buy. It goes like 20mph, etc. He absolutely loves it, and it is about $100 and looks like a trophy truck. You can upgrade it and all, just like a Traxxas or comparable car.

I will say that my 4yo has a hard time controlling it, and he is really good with controlling RC cars. It is almost not fun because of it.

We do have a bunch of the Jada Big Time Muscle RC cars at the house. My boys beat the ever living snot out of them and they won't break. They are pretty quick and pretty cheap. We actually bought my 4yo a bigger version of the Jada BT Muscle RC car for Christmas.
