Removing front windshield on a wrangler?

Has anyone removed the front windshield on their wrangler? I am not talking about the glass, I am talking about instead of just laying it down, actually removing it for trail riding.

It's not too hard if your torque bolts aren't rusted in. I'd soak them with some PB or something for a few days before hand. When I pulled mine on my TJ I replaced the torque bolts with regular bolts and some filed washers to fill the tapered holes

X2 on quick disconnect pins.

The pins are pressed in from opposite sides. People try to cut the head off and drive it through, but that won't work. It worked with CJ/YJ hinges, but TJ are different.

Are you saying you can't get the pics out or its a pain?

I would take the hinges of the jeep and then install a pin to use later

It's just a pain... and even then, probably more so because people try to beat the pin out the wrong direction (they're tapered and splined).

The fastest way I've seen to do it is to take a small cutoff wheel in a dremel or die grinder and cut the pins in half between the knuckles of the hinges. Once the windshield is off, beat the pins from the inside out. Then replace with a bolt or solid rod with cotter pin.

Once you get the factory pin out (appears the easiest way is to cut the pin in half) and replace it with an easier to remove pin, are there any other problems?

@livetorun how did you do it?

BigClay, yeah once you get the pins out you use a different pin that has a ball in the end. lay hood down, pull pins, lift away. You will have to add a disconnect to the harness if you have the temp / compas in the rear view mirror, and some models have a light on the bottom of the rear view mirror as well.

Luckily I have nothing on the windshield except the two bolts, so I am going to try and cut the pin in half

Remove windshield with a shotgun blast.
Tear off doors and top on obstacles and multiple rolls.
Reflect on damage to rig.
Drink beer.
Continue to wheel it while wearing the wifes panties on your head like me.
Tell people you threw the beer cans out @URE.
Drink more beer.

A TJ pin is already in 2 parts, at least on mine it was. Its a pain in the ass the first time if you don't really know what you are doing but once you figure it out, it isn't that difficult. I don't remember the sequence exactly. I think maybe drive both pins inward until you can get the windshield off and then pop them out, its been a long time since I did it. They are splined so you cant just drive them out from the same end. Be careful and don't hit the frame with the cutoff wheel and you should be fine.
