So, Ive been searching, and searching and searching....and haven't found much, and what I have found is very conflicting.

Here is what i'm trying to do.

I have a 91 YJ with the 4.0. The engine has 60 lbs of compression on cylinders 2-5. Cyl #1 has 15 lbs, and cyl #6 has 45lbs. I am wanting to swap longblocks to get this jeep running/driving, and giving me a spare HO longblock to rebuild in the future as time/money allows.

I am looking at buying a 89 XJ engine, and only using the longblock, to replace the bad longblock currently in the YJ. Ideally I would bolt the 91 intake/exhaust, accessories, and mounts all on the 89 longblock, and i'm good.

I know the ports on the 7120 head are raised .125 over the head on the renix style head ports( 89 XJ), and that would only cause the airflow and performance to suffer, due to the mismatched head/intake combo. That does not concern me with this jeep and its purpose.

Will the HO intake bolt on the Renix head?
Will the HO exh manifold bolt on Renix head?
Will the HO water pump and accessories bolt on the renix engine?
Are the motor mounts bosses the same on both blocks?

Any and all info is appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott

You'd have to use the ho head on the renix block for it to work. The ho intake and exh mani's will not bolt up.

I'm not trying to argue, just voicing what i'm thinking. With the exception of port size, and port height, I "thought" All 4.0 and 258 Intake and Exh, layout/flange layouts were the same.... ie: you could take a 258 carb intake and bolt it on a 4.0, and vise versa, you could bolt a 4.0 intake on a 258. What you are saying is that the 4.0 Renix is different.

Are the Blocks different between a 4.0 Renix and a 4.0 HO ?

I can tell you with 100% absolute certainty that a Renix long block will bolt right in where a HO was. I have personally done this numerous times...
