I want to get a rental car for next weekend. I have to work half a day on Saturday, but I have Monday off. The Girlfriend and I would like to rent a car and drive somewhere kind of close, we just aren't sure where.

Where is the best place to get a rental from? just looking for something good on gas, and small.

Also, where is some place cool to go to that isn't too far away, maybe a couple of hours?
We really don't want to go to the beach because it is gonna be so crowded, thought about going to harrah's casino...but not sure, just want something that we can do and have fun and let loose and would probably come back Sunday night.

Are you specifically wanting a small car, or just gas efficient? or just trying to be as cheap as possible? B/c nowadays alot of "mid-size" cars are just as efficient as a tiny compact.
Also keep in mind that unless you are driving 1000+ miles, a difference of a few MPG, like 27 vs 30) will be a very small difference in dollars spent, since this is just 1 excursion. IMO enjoy the vacation a little more by getting a car you enjoy/feel comfy in for only a few more dollars.

Someone was telling me that there is a nice fireworks show over the water at South Port. Might be worth the drive.

priceline.com is a great place to start (do the name your own price. start LOOOW)..... we rented a car for 7 days in chicago at christmas time a couple years ago for $125 total..... (named our own price) it was like $13 a day or something crazy cheap plus taxes. it was a chevy cobalt 4 door.

Well, just wanted something cheap, don't really care what it is...if I can get a nicer bigger car for a couple dollars more, I am all for it. But, I am under 25, so I do have to pay that additional fee. But I am wanting to do something a little more fun. I was thinking about harrah's just because I still haven't been able to gamble since turning 21, which I will be 23 on Saturday. But I have heard that harrah's isn't that great. Also, just thought about driving to Raliegh and seeing the historic stuff, but not sure yet.

if you are under 25, it will be hard to rent from anybody. I believe enterprise maybe the only place, and they will charge you more than somebody over 25. At least it used to be like that.

If I go online, I can choose how old I am and it just adds on like a 35 dollar fee for being under 25, will still allow me to rent a car.
