My brother is giving me his riding mower and need to get it to my house. I need to rent a trailer in order to do so. Is a place like home depot/lowes the best/cheapest option to do so? Should I even consider uhaul?

U-Haul has small open top trailers you can rent by the hour or day

But I’d bet if you asked nicely maybe offer a beverage or a few buck someone here would probably haul it for you

I’d help if I wasn’t 2 hours away

I always hate to ask people to do that, especially on a Saturday. Its such a short distance the mower needs to travel, Wish I could just stick a plate on it and drive it to my house.

Drive it down the side of the road on the grass. People will assume you're just going somewhere to mow...
Just don't carry a beer like you would at home!

How far are we talking? I once rode a mower like a few miles down the road to mow this little ladys yard for her. Took all day, but her yard looked nice!

Wait - you must have a trailer hitch.
Put the tractor in free-wheeling mode.
Attach to your hitch via tow bar, or any kind of pipe.... rock on. Drive slow.

The point is... I've seen lawn mowers moved in all kinds of janky ways. The options are almost endless.
What kind of car do you have to work with?

None of my immediate family's cars have trailer hitches. My FIL has a truck with a trailer hitch which I will borrow, just sucks because by the time I go get the truck, take it to pick up the trailer, drive it to my brothers house, it will literally take 6 minutes to get the mower to my house, then take trailer back, then take truck back.

Redneck tow. Pull it behind the car w/ a 10' strap, attached to the snatch point on the back of the car.
Buddy rides in the mower, applies mower brakes when you brake. Don't go too fast :D.

I've done this more time w/ cars than I care to admit. As a teenager, my dad pulled by overheated XJ across Cary w/ his '80 Benz wagon.

Or, hell, even just pull it up tight against the back of the vehicle w/ a tire vertically sandwiched between them to absorb shock and save paint.

If youre borrowing a truck, just put it in the bed of the truck.

When are you trying to move this thing? If you have ramps and the mower is std size it'll fit in the bed of my truck. You're not terribly far from me if I remember right.

Is Saturday a must. You can borrow my 5x10 but I'll be loading it up for my WV trip later in the week.

Depending on how much you value your time vs your cash two thoughts
1) Call a tow company. A rollback guy, i he is local and can work you in may move it $3 miles for you for $50 or so.
2) NC4x4 Hauling thread. Someone here may haul it for $x
3) Craiglist...hauling for hire or USHIP

All this sounds silly but I just see 2+ hours of your life and a bunch of risk for $50....

I'm just here to act incredulous over this statement.
I was going to say something about that but thought it would come off wrong and make me look like an arsehole

I can’t think of a single truck that a standard riding mower wouldn’t fit it? Even a Ridgline or an avalanche would fit a mower (most mowers)

You don’t have a neighbor with a pick up that could haul it for a $20?

I done it for a few years, but being a home owner with no truck absolutely sucks. Never again. I at least had access to trucks when needed.

For the record, I get not wanting to ask for help, but most people gladly help others. I enjoy when someone needs my help and ask me.

If this guy can do it, you can too. :D
