Sooo.... for the Fall Brawl, my plans for having a buddy trailer me down (from MD) and back have fallen through. Aparently this state is full on pansies  (actually there are soem big evens at RC the same weekend).

I need a way to ensure getting my junk home aftwards. While I don't *plan* to break anything, there are a hundred things that could go wrong and that is a very long drive home. I'll be buying a trailer/tow rig this winter... but not in time.

If needed I can probbaly get a trailer and pull it down with me.
I see 3 possible solutions:
1 - bring trailer, rent an Excursion or other truck that can pull it home. But I don't know if anybody rents vehciles w/ hitches etc? IMO thsi seems most ideal/comfy.
2 - bring trailer, rent a box truck w/ hitch, tow it w/ my trailer. But I've heard they don't likeyou using your own trailer... so that might add cost of trailer rental? Plus gas hog truck running empty box seems inefficient.
3 - rent bigger box truck, squeeze 4Runner inside of it. Is this "allowed"? How easy is it to get up there? I have a winch, but is there anything inside to really tie/latch onto?

(4 - Find somebody that wants to make a trip w/ all expenses covered for the whole weekend. The following Monday is a Fed holiday...)

Do any places just rent flatbed car haulers?

one of the chains down here -- near my house, drive by it every day...can't remember name...I think it's Dollar -- rents pax vans with 2" receivers. At Hertz Equipment, you can rent pickups and trailers. Doubt either place is gonna be around when you need it (Sunday?), in case you do.

I wouldn't screw with a trailer coming down. If you need to get home, just go to U-haul (most of the mom'n'pops will be closed the weekend, though, you'll have to go to a corporate u-haul or bigger location) and rent a truck and trailer....might have problem with axle/tire width on their trailers...iirc, they ask what you are hauling on the trailer...have a (good) answer ready.

Edit: not much to tie into on the inside of the trucks.

I have a friend who is out of work with truck and trailer that you could probably bribe to take you home.

Call around and get some prices, for both round trip and one-way, you might be surprised how expensive the one-way (returning at different lcaation) fee is. I rented an enclosed trailer for over a week, and it was much cheaper to haul it empty for the first half of the trip.

Yeah, enterprise used to rent by the day with unlimited mileage for commercial use.

Dave, it's quite simple really. Just run the immortal :poop: out of the truck, and ship the parts home. Those new flat rate boxes will make it simple.

Bring a for sale sign and a bus ticket?

triple A gold card. 100 free miles with every tow.

i figure....tow to the limit. drop it in a parking lot. call again. repeat til you get home.

You can only use it once a week.
Been there, done it.
I don't have 5 weeks to get home.

I'd say check on a 1 way rental of a box van large enough to get the runner into. they don't need to know what you are carrying in the back. Its just a flat bed with walls and a roof :D

I've seen many vehicles transported inside box vans

Dave,
Drive the damn runner down and race your ass off.
If you break we will get you home. I have a car hauler and a couple options for a tow vehicle....I would probably cuss you the entire way home pulling an empty trailer, but we will figure it out, it aint like Im gonna leave ya stranded...

I also plan on bringing a little pile of tools for use..Ie generator, welder, etc etc. There will plenty of yota parts there too. We can pull an all nighter to get you home......

I told you I would get you home if you broke....I have access to a shop and any tools in Boone, not to mention some yota friends for parts. I can alos haul your junk home as a last resort. But if you want to have your own ride, I would get a ryder or hertz truck with unlimited mileage and put it in the back. Then you also have a nice camper and storage.

I can help get you home as well. there was a nice hand made, signed rake in one of the local Havre antique shops that I passed on that I'm now regretting... :D

more of an excuse to make a trip to MD :)

Sooo... to summarize what I am hearing... you guys are saying I really should not worry about finding another means, and plan to take advtantage of the skill/friendship on hand.

I can do that, I'll provide all the beer needed, and I'll bring every spare part I have.

For the record, I'm just not a fan of just assuming that other folks will take care of me and thus looking like I'm showing up unprepared and mooching off others. Probbaly a personal pride thing.
I guess the good news is, I don't have to be at work until Tuesday so that leaves a lot of time to fix stuff.
