Repairing Lithium Ion battery packs

Batteries for my 9 year old 19.2 volt Ingersol Rand 1/2 “ impact are no longer available. I only have 1 battery left and would like to have a spare. Nobody replaces cells in Lithium Ion due to fire hazard. I used to exchange ni-cads from one container to another with much success. Can I do the same with Lithium Ions ? Has anybody had any success doing so ?

Meaning you can't find any "Ingersol Rand" branded batteries?
Hard to believe nobody's making something compatible, given the plethora of replacements on Amazon/fleaBay for every other brand...

I found a couple of companies that will refurbish my old one as a ni-cad. They also sell kits to renew my Dewalt ni-cad for less than $50

you can do it yourself. Pop open a dead one and see what type of cells it uses.
