Rescue Tellico Coalition - Update 5-7-09
After sitting in on a Rescue Tellico Coalition conference call I have some information to share.
1) The Fight
The fight is alive and well. According to Greg Mumm, Blueribbon Coalition Executive Director, the Forest Service is scrambling to cover itself in light of the RT assertions backed by the Caliber Engineering Environmental Asesment. Candace Wyman, Upper Tellico OHV Project Coordinator for The Tusquitee Ranger District has requested more information from RT, especially in reference to Caliber's figures and recommendations for by-passes and new trails. RT is evaluating our options during the 60 day Notice Of Intent(NOI) period. In conjunction with the law firm representing RT, RT plans to release a plan of attack late next week on what YOU can do to help!
2) Fund Raising
This is going to cost everyone. The problem is the U.S. Government and Trout Unlimited (read SELC), have much more money than we do. SFWDA has two fund raisers ongoing that you can help with.
Adopt-A-Trout - Is an adoption agency that will provide you with a picture and history of your adopted Trout. These Trout are in serious danger as a result of fishing on the Tellico OHV area streams! With your support, SFWDA is leading the fight to save these poor creatures from the torture of the hook and possible extinction! After a small $5 adoption fee is paid, you will be allowed to name your trout and recieve an adoption certificate(card) with your membership/adoption information and the name of your Trout!
Jeep Raffle - RT, through SFWDA, has acquired a 1990 Jeep Grand Wagoneer that will recieve a mild build and be raffled to some lucky winner at Dixie Run 2009! This rig is a luxury model with V8, leather seats and all options. It is undergoing the build at this time which includes a 2" lift, 31" tires and recovery winch.
Damn Locals Memorial Day Event - Held by SFWDA club, Damn Locals, this Memorial Day event in Tracy City, TN will include rides, BBQ and the Raffle Jeep for your inspection.
Donations - As always, monetary donations to the Rescue Tellico effort are always welcome and needed! The Rescue Tellico Coalition(RTC) is not some alien entity out there trying to save the trails at Tellico OHV, RTC is YOU!
The RTC and I thank each one of the NC4x4 community that has supported this cause with letters, emails and donations over that last several months. It is YOU who have gotten the fight this far! Without YOUR support the trails at Tellico OHV would now be closed forever! With YOUR continued support we have a fighting chance to effect our goal of keeping these historic and challenging trails open for the next generation of 4x4 afficianados!
