So, at the request of Mommucked, I'll show yall what I did over the past weekend.

A buddy of mine found this sweet girl on the back roads behind where we live and my sister threw a fit for me to get her. She has a male that looks very similar.

This is Jenny! She's a blue tick coonhound and about 1 - 1.5 years old. She's skinny and had some intestinal worms, but otherwise the vet gave her a clean bill of health this morning. Just in the past 4 days she has definitely taken to me and is getting better by the day. I don't think she was ever a house dog as she really didn't like coming up the front steps or going through doors. Of course, after feeding her and all that in a kennel in my room, she has warmed up to the idea.

Anyway, here's some pics! I got a few in there of Jenny (pink collar) and my sister's dog Beau (red collar). Both blue ticks, although Beau has something else in the mix, and both are rescues! It's kinda hard to tell the pink from red in the pictures, but Beau has more white on his head, shorter ears, and is obviously well fed.

Here's the rest so far. She loves to go for a ride and sits on the passenger side in my S10 very well. I'm probably not going to let her ride in the back of any of my trucks. I don't think she would like it much, my Silverado is sorta loud (which she doesn't care for), and the K30 has stacks (very loud and possibility of her being burned). You can also see how skinny she is. You can also see her ribs and her chest area is sunken in a little. She's actively working on getting fattened up!

I'm finishing off some dog food my sister gave me that came from Tractor Supply. I'll also add some pumpkin, salmon, or chicken on top of that when I feed her. I go for somewhat small portions about 8 or so hours apart, 3 times a day if I can help it. After this food is gone, I think I'm going to try out some Castor & Pollux Natural Ultramix. She also needs some good dental treats....her breath is kickin!

She's snoring beside me right now. :) She has a good howl, but luckily she hasn't made a peep since I brought her home...besides a good burp and some pretty gnarly farts. I can definitely claim her :D

Luckily, I'm off work this week so we can bond and get her in a schedule. Hopefully she can handle me working nights.

She's gorgeous, nothing prettyer than a speckled pup! Her breaths probly bad from feeding on deer carcasses on them backroads and the farts should go away w the worms and better health/food. That dog looks cool riding shotgun!!:smokin:

They both were probably reject coon hounds they just take collars off and set them out instead of taking them to a pound. A buddy has a blue tick that he found the same way she's a great dog also. If you wanna put some
Weight on her pretty fast and pretty healthy get a high performance dog food. They just have more fat and protein. I feed diamond dog food

Rescue dogs are the best! We use Nutro Natural Grain Free (Venison and Potato, I think) because our boy is part hound and gets itchy skin.

I think she's coming in to heat, but I made an appointment to get her fixed on 12-5. That'll be one less thing to worry about!

Anybody else have some rescued dogs? If so, post em up here! I guess we can make his a whole thread. 95% of the time an old mutt or a stray is going to make the best pet anyway, so why buy a dog?

I sort of rescued my Boxer. His previous owners left him in a kennel all day long, let him out to use the bathroom and right back in. He was very skinny and neglected when I got him. He never got played with or taken anywhere.

Now he is spoiled rotten, goes everywhere with me including work occasionally and is by far the best dog I have ever had. Only had him about 2 years now but he loves me and listens so well you'd think I raised him from a pup!

<----Berkeley was a Rescue from the pound in Rock Hill about 10 years ago! Has been my best friend ever since.

We are a big fan of rescues in my family! My little sister even helps run one. She fosters dogs and helps find fosters and homes for them.

It's always awesome when you first meet a dog and they're all skittish and then you get to see their personality once they warm up to you. Best part is, they're always happy to see you!

I adopted Clara from the Avery County humane society. Still can't believe how great she is!

Wouldn't know what to do without her.

Thanks for rescuing a dog instead of buying a puppy from some breeder. My dog was around Jenny's age when I adopted her.

His sister rocks, she helped us get our rescue dog. Maggie has been our best friend and runs the boys around!!

I got my lil girl from a couple that was tired of keeping her up. Left outside on the deck.
The night I brought her home, full of mats in dire need of a grooming...

What kind of breeds or mixes are they? I'd venture to say Jenny is pure Bluetick, but hard to say. She has the sniffer and the big ears to back it up, that's for sure!

She looks like a handful! I bet she's a fun dog though

All of mine are rescues. Dalmatian/hound mix, shepherd mix, pit mix, and we think chow mix.

Dang Duane, four dogs? That's dedication!

Yeah well it started with one. Then he was lonely so we had to get another. Then we found another as a 5 week old abandoned puppy and who doesn't love puppies? Then the last one was left tied to a porch and the folks moved so my wife brought him home to take him to the no-kill shelter in town. 2 years later she still hasn't taken him to the shelter.......
