Restoration.... look it up

Why is it that people advertise things as "Restored" or Classic Restoration" when they are abviously nowhere near their original condition? Here are a couple of examples:

These are all obviously customized far beyond what was stock. I can understand bolting on a set of custom rims, but like the first one having a Chevy drivetrain, a fiberglass body and a tilt up fiberglass front end.... come on!!!! That Jeep is about as stock as Pamela Anderson.
 
Amen brotha'! Also, every used car out there has a " Just been rebuilt" engine in it too! Dude, new valve cover gaskets and a chrome air cleaner dosent equal rebuilt.
 
I have no problem with that being called a restoration. They are nice cars that have been completely rebuilt to almost new, with different parts. So it isn't restored to the way it left the factory, but it is almost a new car.

I do have problems with "restorations" that involve a junkyard engine, a gallon of bondo, and a cheapo Maaco paint job.
 
So then use the word "rebuilt" instead of "restore". I know to some, that's just symantics - and I'm always up for sum-antics - but really....

And resto-mod starts with restoration. They don't call it "rebuild-mod".

And flat black paint and crap welds make anything a "rat rod." And any 350 with lower miles than the one you pulled out is a "crate motor." And a set of tires are "brand new" until they've got more than 5000 miles on them. And on and on. A fresh coat of gloss black doesn't make something a "restoration," you're right, but it's one of the lesser offenses I see on craigslist.
 
I dont have a problem with that second CJ as being restored. its not modded up, and someone not in the know would consider that 'stock'

OK.... I can give you that one.... it was the first one that really got my goat.

Obviously, one should be certain their own grammar is correct before attacking another. :lol:

While I agree resto-mod, Im very impressed by the first guys honesty. Every steel-headed bumpity cammed 350 ive ever seen for sale is "450+hp"

Actually....... that's spelling. :) Grammer is the sentance structure. :lol:

And I have been doing really good with this new keyboard to not have any typos. I can't blame the keyboard on that one, though - OBVIOUSLY... The A and O are nowhere near each other.

OOPS - I didn't mean to call anyone out in particular. Just noting a trend among random Craigslist ads.

Ole Nellie Belle is pretty stock but I have never concidered her a "restored" rig.To me restored means factory.Now I have sunk thousends of dollars in her over the last 21 years.Enough money to bring her to "trailer queen" status yet I keep her where she is used for what she was designed to do. That cj2 that was on here a few months back that was listed for over 10,000 dollars was modified being passed as restored.I hope nobody on here got dupped into buying that rig.It might have been nice but restored it wasn't.
