Retarded flex fuel truck

So I have 2010 Silverado cc 4x4 4.8 flex fuel. I just took it in to the stealersship for the 2nd time becaulse its calculated ethanol percentage is way off. I don't use ethanol so it should never be over 10% but the computer shows 60% or more. This causes it to run weak, bad mpg and throw rich cel codes. Until 2013 Chevy didn't use a fuel composition sensor so the percentage is determined by mass air sensor, timing advance and o2 sensor. So here is the question. My understanding of an aftermarket programmer is that it will only change the parameters of the factory program. Is this correct? If I send the computer off to be programmed is this similar to what a programmer would do? Does anyone know if there is a way to shut the flex fuel part of the program off?

If you had someone go in with HP Tuners, you can just set the stoich AFR table to the same value across the board. That should eliminate it from thinking there's ethanol in the gas.

This is the route I think I'm going to go with. There is a tsb on this problem so I'm not the only one who has had to deal with this. I'd like to have it programmed anyway and not having this issue come back again would be great. Last trip to the dealership they reset the ecm but started suggesting throwing parts at it. But they also said that everything was reading correctly. I see no reason to put new parts that also read correctly just to have the same result.

So this problem is definitely not fixed. I'm ready to move foward on programming away flex fuel. So are there any suggestions for someone who can do such a thing? Maybe gain a couple horses while I'm at it.

Never dealt with this guy but it looks like he might be able to help. I found him looking for info to trim down an LS harness.

LT1 Swap

Edit: He deals with more than just LT stuff

Lots of reading on forums a while back lead me to this site. Apparently this guy Lew is the man when it comes to LS tuning. He can set you up, and you can data log for a month or so and then he will fine tune it even better. I’m sure there are other good folks as well, but I read a lot of killer reviews about this guy. I may have him tune my 6.0 down the road.

I had not seen this one. I'll be contacting him to see what he can do for me. He has a package deal for a programmer and a tune that has my attention.

Check out some of the testimonies on that site. I found people on forums praising his tune and what a difference it made, then more on his own site. I want to get his tune on my truck, but it cost almost what I paid for my truck lol. In your case, if your intentions are to keep the truck a while it seems very worth it.

Truck only has 31000 miles so I'm for sure keeping it. Although I will say I'm disappointed to be having these issues on what is a damn near new truck.

Diablew is out. He said these parameters are not part of the intunes ability to change. Just judging by his response time I would have been glad to spend my money with him.

Wow that is impressive he emailed you back tonight. Sucks he can’t help you.

You'll need someone that uses HP Tuners or EFI Live, more than likely.

This morning when I read the thread title, I thought it was about this:

Nah, you just put the em-phasis on the wrong sy-llable.

sounds like time for a carb swap

If I remember correctly they don't calculate correctly with lots of short trips and only small fill ups.
