no

i use to live in lenoir. i been there once only about half way. do to the front drive shaft was out. some of the locals told me about. the state owns it but does not keep it up any more.

posted? your property?

Richard Road is fine to ride, as long as you stay on the road, like stated. The road is state maintained and public, it even states on the road map 4x4 only.

Here is a picture of it

I've been that way to Boone many times...
Last time in my 2wd tundra
there are a lot of side "roads" that go to hunting land or maybe a house... which is all private
You may think your getting lost and might worry about seeing burnt out vehicles or coming around the corner and finding a mobile meth lab......

But you will be fine solo.
Although it's been 2 years since I've been on that road

Trail? Its a road. Seriously most trucks/SUV's can make it in 2wd. Only time Ive ever seen someone get stuck back there was because he was doing something stupid in one of the mudholes.

Honestly if you really want to test your truck, take it up to Mountain City.

Richlands is pretty neat. It's not hardcore four wheeling, but the fact that you can drive that far through the woods on a state road is pretty damn neat. Makes you feel like you don't live in 2011 as much I guess.

I talked to a resident of the area a while back and was told the road is not a state road anymore and you need permission from a resident of the area . Don't know how that would happen But is what I was told. plenty of people still go thru there still though.
When I go I ride with a buddy that has permission from a friend that lives in there. the sheriff was there a couple of years ago running people off but I haven't heard of any of that in a while.

As soon as the paved road ends, across the creek there is definitely a big red stop do not enter sign.
This is from 321, does anybody know if they have the same sign on the other end of the road?
Any suggestion on getting a permit?
Thanks
