I know this has been talked about a lot before, but I have heard mixed opinions. Is this road legal to ride on?

Yes.
Everything off the road is private property and it can be confusing what is the road and not the road if you have never been before, so go with someone who knows the trail.
Its not far from me. If you want to ride out there one weekend let me know and I'd be glad to go.

Stay on the main trail (road) and you are legal, most of the hill climbs and stuff are private property

Here is the trail on a map if you really want to go. I went south to north on the trail. I recommend that. Have fun!
