Ridgid vs DeWalt vs ???

I went with the 18v DeWalt set after seeing how much abuse they took at my old job. They were dropped off 6' ladders many times, batteries charged regularly without being fully discharged, all kinds of abuse, and they were still going strong at 8+ years last time I talked to an old coworker.
The only problems I've had (work or home) have been batteries and chargers dying after a few years...and yes, it was cheaper to just buy another drill that came with 2 batteries and a charger, vs buying 2 more batteries and a charger.
The only scary thing was that a couple weeks ago, if I had come home an hour or two later, my charger & battery would have caught on fire for sure. As it was they were hissing and steaming, and the battery had melted to the charger.
I searched around and found there was a recall, and DeWalt has graciously offered to replace them both for free, just gotta make it to Charlotte to the nearest Factory Warranty Service Center...

There was a guy on PBB that had this happen to him... about a year or two ago. He had a couple of DeWalt batteries on charge in the bathroom. The whole house burned to the ground.

Of course, the batteries and charger were completely burned up in the fire... all the fire marshall could say for sure was that the fire started in the bathroom.

yikes...they person I spoke to was pretty quick to acknowledge the problem, but I'm sure it's easier for them to replace a couple things like that than to have to deal with a huge problem like a house burning down. That sucks...
apparently the charge regulator fails, and so the charger keeps overcharging the battery once it's full, which heats it up pretty quickly.
