what would a 33''-35'' tire be like mounted to a factory waggy 7'' width wheel? is this a bad idea or would it work alright?

Depends on the width of the tire, 10.50 or 12.50 is good.

I perfer to run a narrower rim, It tends to keep the bead on the rim from getting bashed due to the large bulge on the tire.

Now as long as the back spacing is ok your fine. other wise it rub when turning.

I run a 8 inch wheel on a 35 x 12.50

depends on how wide the tire is. If its 12.5, its do-able, but even with only 25 psi on the street, the center of the tread will probably wear quicker. That is my experience after running 33x12.5 on 7" wheels.
EDIT: loved it offroad, never lost a bead.

yea, I'd def have to run wheel spacers I would assume with Stock 89 wagoneer wheels and axles under my XJ. especially with a 35x12.50. But that answers my question, i mainly wondered how it'd do airing down and whatnot.

sweet, thanks man. I'm still trying to figure out my wheel/tire situation. right now, money is a big factor. I just bought axles and am about to order gears....which depends on what size tire i go with lol. decisions, decisions.

Just get used rims from galoways; you can pick up a set for 100 or less. Especially if you do some trading, or dont care what they look like.
