I've been tossing around some ideas for what to do when I make rock sliders (for my YJ), and I wanted to get some opinions. I thought about just getting some 4" angle and using that, which is fairly typical. I also thought about trying to incorporate a 45 into the bottom of my slider so that it will act like a boat side and slide over rocks easier, but I'm not sure of how to make a 45 strong enough to handle the duty. Would an angled slider be a waste of fabrication time? Also, if I were using a metal brake and did the 45 out of one piece of say, 3/8", would that hold up? Throw me some opinions. Because of the height of my ish, I'd like to be able to step on a little something to help me get into it, but I can always just step extra high if I need to do so. Would a slider with a 45 degree brake in it, out of 3/8", with a piece of DOM welded to the part that bolts onto the body do the trick? Keep in mind that I'd like to keep it economically feasible, otherwise I'd sink the $500 into something pre-fabbed, but I don't have the budget to do that.
