rockauto.com?

People either love them or hate them...

I've always had a good experience from them. Good prices, fast shipping (again my experience).

You can choose your brand on most of their items... I've gotten a good amount of Dana/Spicer and Timken parts from them in the past.

I'll be using them during my Dana 60 rebuild this Winter (mainly for brake and seal items).

Hope you have the same experience.

J.R.

i have ordered several thousands of $$ from them, never a problem....They had a fuel pump that was $300 less than i could find anywhere else. If you place a big order, you will get shipments from all over the place and this will alter your final shipping charges. In fact one time I ordered several things and they shipped one item twice, once from 2 different locations

I found them while looking for a Window regulator for my '99WJ. the Dealership wants $190 for one, These guys had them for $60. the reviews on the product were good. only complaint was that it was about a 1/2 second slower than the OE. My motor is good, just that stupid freakin plastic clip that the cable hooks too broke. I could swap the motors I bet and it'd be the same speed... if we're racing on window ups/downs. I'm just not sure if I want to deal with crappier plastic parts if that's what it comes with.

Always had good experience with them.

Also printed out their prices and used them countless time for price matching at Advance..

Have to say, I'm pretty freakin impressed with their catalog! organization and product images. If that's a sign of their service and parts, I feel good about ordering from them.

thanks all

Use the often & are great to deal with fast shipping & great prices

I ordered a cam shaft sensor from them, and they called me back within a couple hours letting me know they didn't have any in stock because the part wasn't being manufactured anymore.

Seems like good customer service to me.

ordered ~1500 from them in the last few years,

one time, I ordered a rad for a truck, was split at a seem near the neck. Was a mfg, defect and they handled the return, perfect. ZERO issues. They did ask for a pic which I was happy to email. As soon as they got that the 2nd one was on its way with a call tag for the bad one.

another plus from me, ordered new cooling fans for my Honda Accord, they were labled identical to the OEM, installed and worked without issue. still working a year and a half later.

Also ordered water pump, timing belt kit, and struts for same car, all reasonably priced, and are correct parts
The water pump is actual Honda part in a Honda labled bag/box, timing belt(s) are Gates with tensioner rollers, Struts were KYB GT series

I use them to look up parts all the time if I'm not sure about how parts look, or need to know alternate applications.

I've used them a time or two also. No complaints.

I've used them several times and only had one problem with an axle shaft being misboxed that i didn't feel that was handled very well.

He made me order from em.

Always had good service. But don't ask em anything about the parts. As it says, "we are NOT mechanics. We do NOT know if this will work." (They'll be very polite when they tell you they have no clue what the difference between the options is. :D )

I always search for a discount code when I order from em. (Every time you order they give you a "recommend us, and your friend or you get 5% off" code)

I like Rock Auto and would definitely recommend them.

well, their Window regulator ended up being crap. the OE regulator lasted about 9 years before the plastic crap broke, the RockAuto crap lasted about 8 months and the same piece broke.

This is a part that really makes you wonder. I'm no engineer, I'm no bean counter, I didn't even stay at a Holiday Inn Express.. EVER in my life. I have a degree in freakin Art, but I know that this plastic crap won't hold up for shit, and that it would've been cheaper and easier to alter the Die that stamped the metal part and avoid this issue all together.

So, for those that that may run into this issue, listen up. On this style regulator there's a cable that raises and lowers your window. The two ends of this cable, meet at a metal plate that mounts to your glass. On that metal plate are a few pieces of plastic that are molded onto the plate. One of which is molded to hold the ends of the cable. It's this part that fails. It fails because there is a TON of pressure from the cable, otherwise you'd have a pretty sloppy window. So why use plastic? Why create another step to the manufacturing, another part? that plate was stamped in a die, I took a piece of metal I had laying around. It was a bent piece that made a 90* bend. cut it out to about 1" square, slotted and drilled it, then welded it to the plate in place of the plastic crap. the slots and drilled holes allowed for the ends of the cable to be attached. I tried to get a picture of it, but when it was all assembled you could see it very well. This could've SO EASILY been stamped into it. WHY do engineers pull stooooopid shit like this?

So, I hope you guys and your customers don't have any issues. I know this is only one product, unfortunately it's the First and only part I'll order there.

Brent, i wouldn't really blame Rockauto for this - they're just a distributor. It's the aftermarket manufacturare that has failed here. In most cases RockAuto has a couple or even several options for which brand you purchase, in some cases it's even OEM.

I've used them several times and been happy, and I know if I buy a cheap aftermarket part them I can expect problems.
My only complaint w/ them is that sometimes there "descriptions" aren't very, well descriptive si it's hard to tell how the part from company A might be different from Company B.

If my vinyl sticker falls off your truck due to the adhesive that 3M put on it, then I still gave you a crap product. I do my best to make sure my vinyl is up to par. I've had some bad Application tape and I took responsibility for it even though I didn't produce the tape.... but maybe that's just me.

And I shall be more careful in the future... more careful not to order from there. :flipoff2:

I would bet (and would even go check if I Knew the year, maake and model of the vehicle) they have more than one option. If you chose the cheapest one and it failed that is not their fault.

By your logic I went out to eat last night and ordered a salad. I hate salads, I will never go to Ruth's Chris again their food is horrible.

by that logic...I have eaten at Applebees 3 time, first two times was piss poor service, third time I ate a steak that was worse than I've had on Airplanes. I gave them three chances and wasted my money all three times. Should I go back just because they didn't grow that cow?

BUT 95% of my rant was about the engineering of the part. BOTH OE and Aftermarket. 5% was the last few words about RockAuto. I also mentioned that I hope all of you continue to have a good experience, but that mine wasn't that great.

As for cheap vs. more expensive options... No, all the window regulators for 1999 Jeep WJ are Dorman brand. So there was no option.

If it's alright with you guys, and you don't mind too terribly much, I just wanted to drop you a heads up on a bad experience with a part, and a possible way to save you some money and fix it better than a replacement part. Didn't mean to poopie on your favorite parts supplier.
