I have run across a couple sets of 5.5 ton rockwells and about 8 or 9 sets of 2.5 ton. Is the aftermarket as good for the 5.5 as the 2.5 or should I stick with the 2.5 ton. I got the larger for cheaper and I figured the bigger the better. I know practically nothing about rockwells,so if anybody wants to throw in there .02 go for it.

I know I need one more steering u-joint axle, hint hint.

IIRC the 5.5 are just too big and heavy to do much with. PM Ricky he may want to build a monster dump truck.

cool thx, I thought you had them.

BTW Del Boca Vista is from Seinfeld, I had to ask too!

the 5 ton rocks are only geared like 6.44 and are almost twice as heavy as 2.5tons. the aftermarket really doesnt support the 5 tons as much. i found a complete running 5 ton 6x6 for $1000 obo. probably could have gotten it a lot cheaper but they are not worth as much.

I will most likely use the 2.5 just because of the size of the other. Both the 5 tons almost weigh as much as my jeep.

What would I need to get leafs off of to use on something like this? I have never attempted anything of this size, and could use some ideas. I'm not doing this alone and have people who are very capable of something like this. I just would like some ideas and opinions.

I am only beginning to collect parts for this, so there will be no build-up threads starting anytime soon. But there will be as soon as parts start coming in.

So please feel free to comment, and let the flamming begin.:flipoff2:

Not sure what kind of 5 ton you got, but some of the rock 5 tons are geared 5.86 and have a detroit in the rear. If you got that certain rear I dont think you'll be able to find a front to match. There are a lot of 2.5 ton rockwell build-up parts out there. Wilwood, Chucks Trucks, BTF, and multiple other companies all make build-up parts for the 2.5 tons.
