I have an 88 year old uncle in assisted living down here, and he is originally from Rocky Mount. He is only expected to live a few weeks to a few months, and we are working on final arrangements. We will just be doing a graveside service, as my mom, my wife, and I are the only family left, and only a few of his old friends and neighbors may show up, along with a few of our friends from Sanford. Since we are only doing a graveside, I am having my buddy down here at the funeral home do everything. He'll be placed downtown at Pineview (where my grandmother is).

The problem is...we are looking for ideas on where to gather prior to the service, especially those coming in from out of town. Might only be a half hour or so...somewhere for a bathroom break, snack or drink, etc. It has been years (decades) since he had contact with a church up that way.

Also looking for somewhere nice/quiet/good for a meal afterwards for a small group.

Of course, we won't know what day of the week until it happens, and time will depend on scheduling with the funeral home and cemetery.

Ideas?

Not much going on in rocky mount unfortunately. For a snack stop I would hit the sheetz off the Red Oak exit right before you get to rocky mount. For a sit down eating place I would say probably Cracker Barrel off Winstead Ave. exit or they have a K&W Cafeteria which is always a hit with the old folks, right on hwy 301 near the mall.

Or if you like BBQ and fried chicken there is Gardners BBQ. They have buffet BBQ and chicken and all that type of stuff

Thanks for the tips. Kinda what I figured -- fast food and chain stuff.

He passed this morning, so we'll probably just play it by ear and see what we're hungry for come Wednesday.
