Rode the Parkway yesterday

Yesterday was my 30th Birthday. To celebrate, I took the day off work and rented a Harley to ride a little bit of the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was a great day for a ride, and an awesome way to celebrate turning the big 3-0.

I got on the parkway somewhere near McGrady NC, and rode almost all the way to Asheville. Then I got off and headed down to SC to see some family. There was no room on the bike for my good digital camera, but I managed to snap these with my phone.

2010 Harley Sportster 1200 - had less than 1600 miles on it when I started.

I wish I had stopped to take some pictures of the Linn Cove viaduct area. That was the most beautiful stretch of the parkway, by far.

I had no idea that you could rent Harleys and do this. This is awsome! So, how much to rent a bike?

So, how much to rent a bike?

I paid $115 for a weekday on the Sportster. That included liability/accident insurance and unlimited mileage. For $25 more, I could have had a Fatboy or a bagger. I think they even had a trike. Their rates go up on weekends (maybe 150 for the Sportster on a Saturday) but I'd rather ride on a weekday when there are less people on the road.

Last year I went up to Woodlands and ate then to make a lap around prices lake for my birthday. Trip got really interesting when 1/4 mile into it a hellacious storm came raging. Had a few people with me and we just decided to keep on truckin. Was wearing sandals so I was slinging mud all up my back. Had a great time though. Love the parkway and everything on it. Love the pics btw.

Cheaper than I would have thought... Where did you rent it from?

I rented from Tilley Harley Davidson in Statesville. I think the rates are pretty much the same at most dealerships in this area though. Maybe a little more, the closer you get to the parkway.
