Roll Cage

I'm looking to build a roll cage and need some help getting started. I've got an 84 Jimmy with a soft top and would like to build something to add some protection back there. I've got a few ideas for it but how do I measure it out. Or is there anywhere I can get drawing for one?

no just the basic diagram I'm taking an fab class at CPCC and we're goine to use my rig to learn on.

The straighter the tubes the stronger the cage. Dont forget about tying it into the frame and triangulation of whatever design you use. With that in mind you can make it simple or tricked out. Its a matter of time and budget.

I'm just looking for a basic design to start with. The guy teaching the class knows how to build race cars but never have done any thing for a truck.

if hes teaching the class he should know how to point you in the right direction....the same principles and guidlines should be used in a race car as a crawler

I dont know that there is a design or drawing out there.
Most cages I have seen have been "field fabbed" and test fitted not auto cad drawn and produced.

not knocking, but as stated if you have a fabrication instructor who cant start building a tube cage, Id question the dollar value.

As a base you need a rear hoop a mid hoop and a windshield hoop.
Runners down either side connecting these (preferably triangulated)
And over head connectors/protectors (again /_\ )
