New one for me.

Bought a YJ front for the R&P/carrier to put into my XJ30, went to tear down today...

Saw the bolt that holds the pin in the carrier was already out, so took punch and hammer to the crosspin and it wouldn't budge... Got the flashlight and saw a freakin roll pin holding it in there, probably 1/4" recessed from the outer edge of the carrier.

Going to try drilling it out though I broke 3 bits today. PO must have decided to stick it in and break it off (literally).

I'm thinking I might try the dremel with a small grinding stone on it, its a real bastard to get a bit in there with a drill.

Anyone have any bright ideas? right now I'm just going to keep drilling it out until the metal is thin enough I can shear it by hammering the crosspin.

I'm pretty sure this is standard for the AMC20 in CJ's, maybe even the D30, I can't remember the front. The rollpin is no problem to get out...if you have the carrier out. When I did my XJ, I remember thinking, hey this bolt instead of a rollpin is nice

X2

Tap it out with a drift/punch and a hammer.

Thats how it's installed.

The pin has a small gap down one side. This gap makes it slightly larger than the hole it goes into. As it is tapped into the carrier the gap closes up, making a tight fit.

The dana 25 in my Willys is a roll pin that goes in/comes out in one direction.Check and see if the pinhole is larger on one side of the carrier than the other.

Wow, can't believe I didn't notice the hole in the other side of the carrier that pretty much says "insert punch here."

I think it took about 5 whacks with the punch and it came right out. Derrr!

Thanks again for the help all.
