I am wanting to put Wrangler leaf springs in my CJ5. However, I was wondering about ride height. I have 33x12.50s and the ride height is about right for them (1" body and lift, and add a leaf). I am staying spring under (I'll do a SOA eventually, just not now).

Right now, I can get a set of YJ 4 cylinder leafs. Are they worth snagging for my intended purposes?

Anybody know of a good combo of junk yard springs that'll clear the 33s and give me a decent ride (not too happy with the add a leaf)?

I have several sets of stock CJ springs, a pair of rear Toyota 4 cylinder leafs, and probably will be snagging the Wrangler 4 cylinder leafs.

If you swap YJ springs in your CJ, you'll end up lowering the CJ. CJ has more arch in their springs than YJ
unless this is going to be a spring over????

Yeah, the YJ springs are only worth is for SOA. But if they're a good price and you want to go for that later, buy them up and keep them around. I've found that having usable parts lying around is good motivation for doing modifications.

Well

I am not liking the ride on CJ5 right now (my old one was better).

I thought having 2.5 inch springs up front was an upgrade.

I've read that they are lower, but can I mix and match some spring packs and end up with something that gives me a little bit of lift over stock CJ springs?

I am avoiding doing the spring over because I don't want to deal with the steering, I don't have a welder handy, I can't afford to buy a decent welder. Now if you guys can convince me it really isn't that bad to do...

You have to convince youself. Based on your own knowledge & skills.

are you gonna DYI? if your asking about the benifets I love my spring over with FSJ axles good on the road & excellent in the rocks

Not to hijack this thread, but does your CJ have the tie rod and drag link style where they act as one piece? This set-up is good for doing an inverted T style steering, as only have to shorten and re-thread the tie rod. Most drag links will work in stock form, and if they don't, you can shorten the collar between the draglink and the TRE it uses to connect to the pitman arm. But remember, it is much cheaper to buy DOM tubing and make your own draglink (or order one) than to get two new knuckles (or used machined flattops), and two steering arms, possibly spacers, and hardware too. I have seen some people who keep their stock steering set-up when they do a spring over, but with the draglink at the angle its at, I could only imagine what kind of bumpsteer you would have. Doing an SOA is relatively easy, cheap, and even if you have to pay for the welds, it doesnt require much welding at all. An SOA and x-over with waggy axles would be the most cost effecient way to make your CJ badass, plain and simple.
