Hey Guys,

I'm planning on re-roofing my house (which I'm not looking forward too), to save some money, starting on March 29th, and I just wanted to put out a general request to see if anyone had some items that I could borrow to help with the project.
My ladder isn't the sturdiest, so I'm looking for a couple good, sturdy, extension ladders.
I could also use:
- nail gun(s)
- tear-off tools
- pitch forks
- other roofing related items
I am very particular about my tools and I take even better care of ones that are not mine. If for some reason I break anything, I will replace it with the same new item.

Please let me know if you have anything, and I'll pick it up or meet you somewhere in the Triad.

Thanks in advance,
Dean

FWIW, we put a roof on for a friend last year. He went out and bought a Harbor Freight coil roofing nailer, about ninety bucks. He got the replacement warranty on it, figuring one of them probably wouldn't last thru the job. We were surprised that not only did it hold up, it worked pretty darn well. If you can't borrow one, that's a cheap alternative.

just to let you know its worth paying someone to do it. I done my roof and doing the roof aint that bad its the clean up afterwards. if you can try to put down tarps all around your house to make it a little easier on you

When i saw who posted, i had to check the time stamp. "gone but not forgotten" does that refer to the user or the big ass purple ranger! you've been on hiatus.

no tools here, but i wouldnt hesitate to lend em to ya if i had em.

No kidding! Good to see an old name pop up.

Dean if you were any closer I'd be more than happy to lend a hand. Free bump for a good guy!

Hey I think before you go this route, let me roommate give you an estimate. He did a friends roof on here (MichaelT) as well as alot of my other friends. If you dont have homeowners insurance then dont bother. But the work is garanteed and you may even have money left over for yourself after. Good work and will get the fairest price possible - best thing, he deals with the insurane adjuster. PM me if you want the info. He did just leave to visit family for the rest of the week but will be back next week.

I have a nail gun if ya want to come to Charotte to get it ;-)

Hey guys,

Yeah, it's been way too long since I've been on here. The Grape Ape is long gone....almost 7 years now. It was temporarily replaced with a CUCV 1-1/4 rig, but had to let that go too.
Thanks for the offer y2Krawler. I know it's a lot of work, and I've done it before, but saving some money is more important right now. I already have most of the materials anyways.
Thanks,
Dean

Hey Grape Ape! If you start on the 29th.[u really hate to], you'll probably miss the Jamboree, & opening of Uwharrie! You'll not get much help, because everybody else will be there!
Come on out, & have a great time! [Honey, I'll do the roof tomorrow!];)

I have a roofers shovel for stripping off old shingles you can have. Trick is I'm in Raleigh but if you know anyone who's traveling that way I can pass it off to them. I had to redo a roof on a house I had about 10 years ago and the shovel did a good job of removing the two old lawers of shingles so we could do it right. Come to think about I have a good sized rool of roofers felt sitting here from doing my shed a few years ago you can have just let me know. The shovel is one with teeth and a block welded in the back side so you can get it under the old nails and pry up shingle and nail at once.

These shovels are easy to make if you see a picture. Made out of a flat tip shovel. The roofing shovels are just narrower. Luckily my brother-in-law is a roofer and has these already when we need them for roofing jobs. But still very simple if you have a grinder and welder.
Also, the best invention I have ever invented was a shingle lift. Simple but effective. All I did was cut a foot of 3" pipe and welded up a basket that sets 3' higher. Welded on a few misc. U-bolt tabs and walla. I use a 20 foot long 2" pole for the basket to slide on that I temporarily attach with metal straps to the highest peak and use a winch and snatch block. Amazingly it works flawlessly. Usualy takes a couple times to get the hook set right to lift the basket angled to the side for the man on top to take the shingles. I've never even seen a roofing lift but I dreamed this one up and made it in like 2 hours... Everybody calls it my red-neck elevator.
We believe in 1.5" roofing nails. The staples are a bitch to pull when you redo the roof again in 20 years. It's an art but you get used to it and most old roofers I know only does nails. It's a much better product for a customer to see.

Thanks for the tool offers guys, it's just too far to go and no time to get there. Isn't that always the case!!?
That sounds like a cool shingle lift 6Bang!

I'll let you all know how it goes. Starting on thursday.
