looking for a few roofer reccomendations in the Charlotte area. I was hoping to get a few more years out of mine but don't think that is going to happen.

Along those lines, what are the collective thoughts on metal roofs? Are they doable by myself?

Very doable just a possibility of damaging the metal by yourself when pulling it up on roof etc and imo metals way easier and faster than shingles! Unless your a boss and can sling some shingles...

To do it right I wouldn't consider metal roofing a one man job. You might could get something up there but I'd think it would take forever to do it decently. Also they say you can just put the metal over existing shingles but everyone I've ever talked to with any knowledge of it says that's just a recipe for disaster. So now you have to deshingle your entire roof by yourself. There are times when diy is great and other times its worth paying the man and I count roofing in the pay the man category.

PM inbound...

For a shop or something, you could do the metal roof yourself. For a house, I'd pass. Laying out and screwing down panels is pretty straight forward. Doing all the trim and angles and gutters is a beeotch. Whatever you do, don't hire M&M roofing, John Mitchell. He did the roof on my shop, put the panels on the wrong way, and had several leaks the first time it rained. He refused to correct the panel orientation even though I had a statement from the manufacturer saying he had done it the wrong way. Said he had been doing it that way for years. I corrected them myself on the front side, and it has no issues. The back is still the wrong way and it collects leaves and pine needles which then siphon water in and cause leaks.

For shingle roofs, I've used Max Baxter Roofing and they did a good job. I've also heard good things about Dockery roofing.
