Ok, I picked up a couple gallons for my lawn equipment to change the oil. I noticed that it doesn't say it's ok for gas engines. I know it's good oil, but I want to know if I'll hurt anything in my Kawasaki, Briggs, and Onan engines. I haven't found much help from first game experience. One person said that she'll told them no. But that could be a cya statement. Anyone here have insight?

Not sure about the t4. But I run t6 in all my engines except my victory. It started slipping clutches after the cams and dyno tune. Then I went to t5. Rotella is the shiznat.

If I remember correctly, it's got some zinc additive packs and heavy duty detergents in it, and the zinc can poison cats on gas engines. I believe most of the gas engine compatibility has to do with the amount of zinc content.

I know there are a lot of people using T6 in race engines, but not sure about T4. T6 falls in and out of fashion as the darling of the heavily-modified Subaru community.

If you don't have any cats on your engines, and the viscosity is compatible, there should be no problems. Do a little more research, but I think you're okay to use it.

My Onan runs only Onamax cause it’s their oil and the only thing they recommend and replacing a $6k genset isn’t my idea of fun. The rest of my small engines run Rotella though. Never had a problem. Both mine and the wife’s Cummins run Rotella too. Nights as well buy it by the drum around here lol.

Onan hasn't been in business since 1992. They dont exist.
Charles On an died in 86, his daughter sold 51 present then and the balance in 92.

Onamax is valvoline diesel

Yes, you’re correct but they can call it whatever they want and be made by whoever as long as it fulfills my warranty requirement!

They can't void your warranty based on brand.
Cummins recommends valvoline diesel for all their products, fyi.

Sounds good. I’ll tell the Cummins/Onan dealership to change it up for the cheapest stuff from now on.

I didn't say "the cheapest stuff" but as long as it meets standard they cant void for brand.

Fyi I spent 11 years in the Cummins network, with my last role being over 18 distributor locations. I'm not just talking base on what I've read on the internet.

I don’t doubt you I’m just saying that the place that services my genset in our toyhauler states that services are to be done by them with their fluids/parts. I have 6yrs of coverage through the dealership so I just go with it cause it’s covered in the service/warranty program.

As long as those services are free/included with purchase you are golden.

I'm assuming you are using the Cummins Sales and service (formerly Cummins south) branch in lake Charles?
If so, I'm not sure who is still there but that used to be part of my territory.

You mentioned the gen costing 6k, I hope it's either a diesel or a 12kw. Otherwise that's about 1.5x too high

It your burning so much oil that your worried about the zinc content of that oil destroying your cats its likely you’ve already invoked your warranty.

That said I run rotella of one form or another in all of my internal combustion engines. From a 1989 302 to 2005 camry to bmw motorcycle, to GasGas 2 stroke dirt bikes and my mowers etc etc. The zinc content helps with lubrication. So much that the additive (which is zinc) that rebuilders recommend on a fresh rebuild is not needed.

Run it without a worry.
