Ive got a 93 yj and want a little lift but dont want to spend a ton of money. The rough country 4 inch is just at $500 and thats about what I want to spend. I know its not the best suspension lift, but has anybody ever had one or herd that they are junk. You guys let me know good or bad...

Depends what you are looking for and how much you know about jeeps. I had that lift on my YJ. At the time I was 17 or so and broke and it was a great deal. It was missing a few small parts that I had to get elsewhere, rode "rough" as crap, and the springs sagged from 5 inches of lift to just about 3 inches in a year. That wouldnt have been that bad but they all didnt sag evenly. Best part of the lift was the windshield decal that mispelled a word. All in all its cheap but thats its best thing going for it. Not a total waste but if you can afford better most would recommend doing so.

R.C. and many others like BDS, and even basic Shyjacker units are what they are, cheap straight forward mass produce components for one purpose- bigger tires. Yes they'll clear what the manufacture recomends, no they will not drastically improve ride or proformance. They do however meet the needs of their intended market. It's a question of budget long and short term. If your ultimately going to get the urge to go bigger or hope to gain performance save your money do some research. You'll spend less in the longrun from rework startovers so to speak.

i'd run one for the cheap route, they fit and do what they were built for, your vehicle however will not become a superstar because of it.

RC and BDS in the same sentance? Better check your sources.

True.... and you better spell check sentence

If you want to clear some tires and mall crawl then go for it. If you actually want to go wheeling and not have to worry about replacing stuff, then save some money.

I run a rough country lift on my yj, and I love it.
I beat the crap out of it, and haven't had any major problems with it.

I say it's well worth the money and then some.

if you can weld do a spring over. there was something with the steering touching something cant really remember. but get the steering parts too. get better axle clearance. but its more like 5" lift.

BDS has the best springs on the market, I have had 4 lifts with them and they just work.
I have even had shop owners be surprised at how well they work. Fantastic warranty.
I say save a little longer and do it once...my .02

Hey "bigwheel" I've installed both manufactures lifts and numerous others and BDS simply does the same thing under another brand name. They are in my opinion nothing spectacular, if they were they would specialize their product line like Rubicon ect. BDS is still a catch all manufacturer, they may have a different spring supplier but the overall lift package and contents are very closely related in function and fabricated components. I'm not bias toward either just calling it how I see it from my perspective.

I had a 3" RC lift on my XJ back in the day, simple add a leaf, coils up front and shocks. Rode really rough but I got used to it. I actually didnt realize how rough it rode til I test drove my current ZJ for the first time, plus it helps to have coils all the way around. But all in all, I was satisfied with my RC lift on my XJ, at the time I was going for looks and only looks, was in high school and of course I had to look cool rolling up in the parking lot.

Rough Country is Good

As everyone should know...you don't get a cadillac for yugo money.....but, I have installed RC kits in numerous YJ's and TJ's, and for the money they are good kits. They have improved their spring quality and these kits do make your rig more than a "mall crawler". They ride rougher than some setups but....it's a jeep. I have had Jeeps with RC kits in numerous "intermediate" situations that the lift functioned as needed. Really......90% of all Jeepers with RC kits installed will lose their nerve before the components reach their limit...

May the Jeep gods shine upon you,

i havent heard much about rough country, but i have a black diamond 4 inch (about $700) on my yj and it does fine for me. i dont wheel a ton or do anything extreme, and it works. should be pretty similar to rough country. no wrangler is going to ride like a mercedes, and even if you do get a nice lift, the tires are most likely going to ride rough anyways, so who cares? its a jeep, not meant to be luxurious. thats my two cents

Every person I've talked to has said somthing diffrent. I havent ruled out doing a SOA so I might just go that route. I have heard that they started using springs made in Canada, but I havent heard if they were any better than the last company they used. Anyway thanks for all the input....
