Time for a router table or insert, and trying to decide which way to go:

benchtop router table

-or-

build a router lift/fence into one of my workbenches

-or-

build a dedicated router table/cabinet with a router lift

Any thoughts/opinions/experiece?

I built a router inset with a lift into my wood table bench. So far it has been very useful. I plan on incorporating the T tracks that are in my router inset into the rest of the table as well. I still have a palm router that I use quite a bit for ease of use.

The only time it isn't useful is when the table is covered with a project or other random mess.

^ I can echo this almost exactly, my bench has a table insert on one end and a table saw on the other. Its great as long as i dont have to clean off the other crap off first.

@tkeaton same here. My table is 4'x7'. On one 4' side is my table saw(thats now apart because I have some bad bearings) and at the other end is my router insert table.

I got my router insert table for free and I didn't really have enough room in the garage/shop for it so I decided to insert it into the table. I still prefer using my plunge handheld router for most jobs but will start playing around with the router table for bigger/more complex projects

I have built 2 router tables. Both allow to table to rotate 90 degrees. This allows wide boards to lay the flat way thus making it easier to keep long material flat on the table. I could put a bead on 2000 ft of 1x8 for siding in about 2 hours by myself
