Running hot

i went out wheeling weekend before last (was in the high 60s low 70s) i have a 87 jeep cherokee 4.0 well it started running hot to the point coollint started running out of the over flow tank atleast a gallon wasent that hard of wheeling more just trail riding this is the second time i took it out and no problems on the first trip so i am looking for people to chime in on where i need to start looking and if anyone else has had this problem thanks in advance

Plenty of fluid, good hoses not collapsed, mechanical fan clutch good, aux fan coming on, good thermostat, no leaks?

Have you replaced anything recently? If so you may have a bubble in the closed system. Could be any number of things. If you have an e-fan check to see if it is working too.

have not repaced anythang and it nas no mecanical fan it has been replaced with 2 electic fans both are coming on and thay are in the pull direction fluid was good before i went wheeling

XJs are really bad for running hot. mine has never boiled over but it stays hot, electric fan comes on all the time. you may want to add some vents to the hood to let the heat escape a little easier.

Have you done a lot of "muddin"? If so your radiator could be clogged with mud and not flowing enough air.
