Running slow?

The server looks happy. I opened up some more clients on the web server this evening... we were getting a little short on spares. Guessing maybe network congestion?
 
I'm noticing my computer is busy until the chat bar loads. I have to wait for it on each page I open.
 
yeah its way slow now, and this stupid chat thing pops up every time i click something. its driving me nuts!
 
+1 if you hide chat it stays hidden in al future browsing sessions...at least it does on FF...

Ever since the google adds were added, it's stupid slow on my iPhone. It took me several minutes just to wait for the page to load so I could type this.
 
Figured I should elaborate on this a bit...

Right now we're serving somewhere around a dozen ad types from three different ad networks. That means a bunch of unoptimized javascript that a visitor's browser has to download and execute one by one. Then it's got to download the ads themselves, most of which are large images, but some of which are flash videos... which the iphone can't render.

In short, the board's a little slower than normal for everyone. But it's going to suck a bit more for somebody that's browsing it on a mobile device that's limited both in processing speed and in download speed.

But that's all part of the process. I'm trying to figure out what's fastest, what's easiest on the NC4x4 server, and what pays the most (er... what pays anything at all).

Once that's figured out browsing speed should pick back up. But either way, Tapatalk costs a couple of bucks and shouldn't show ads for anybody.
 
What about blackberry users..... I haven't been able to sign on since the change.


I hereby start the petition to bring back the old NC4X4!!!! No chat, No banner ads, just good ol' NC4x4.
 
Tapatalk is available for the Blackberry, too.

Why can't you log in?

Do you want to go back to the old server that crashed once a week too?
 
havent really noticed a difference, and I cant get my web to work at all on my crackberry

Not gonna lie, I've barely even noticed the banners, and there are far less here than any other site I frequent. Chat I don't even use, and it hasn't seemed to slow my computer down any. But the thing I still don't like is the set up of new posts. I don't like the fact that as soon as I read a thread it's gone from the new posts list and CP list...so I either have to go track it down through search (God I hope I remember the title), my subscriptions (God I hope I made a most in that thread) or out in the forum (God I hope it's logically placed). And even though I mark forums as read...some how every time I come back, I still have 38 pages of threads.

I guess i should say i cannot load any nc4x4 pages. Since the changes, it just gets to the stage where the progress bar reads :"Requesting", tries to load for a while then eventually stops trying and gives me an error message.

Banners and chat dont really bother me, i just want to be able to load the pages on my phone. Every other site loads just like always.

I am with UT. Having to mark forums read is the only part that is truly annoying(and the other problems that go along with it). No other forum i have been on is like that.

Woot woot...dunno if you guys went back to the old way...or if I'm just stupid and was improperly navigating and an admin fixed my problem...but I'm glad to see the old 'new posts' configuration back.
 
No, I just flipped it back.

There were several people that had specifically asked if we could change it to work that way, but feedback was mixed at best. So it's session-based again. If it times out, everything gets marked as read.

I've got a couple of ideas for speeding up the ad loading and permanently opting out of the chat functionality. I'll try to knock that out tonight.
 
^^^Thanks for all you do. Glad to see you don't get butt hurt over constructive criticism like admins on some other sites I'm on, and are willing to apply suggestions.
 
the only slowness I got is waiting on rtb.amgdgt.com, sometimes it slow to respond. Anywhere from 5sec to 15sec sometimes, doesn't seem to matter time of day. Guess that's one of the ad servers?...
 
as soon as I posted that ^^^^^^, it held up waiting on ad.nc4x4.com for 12 secconds (head counting), and about 3 on the rtb.amgdgt.com
 
It says it's waiting on different things, including 'waiting for chat.nc4x4.com...' but doesn't seem to impact the board, itself, for me.
