Hi All-
I have an 1977 FJ40 that my father bought brand new. The tub isn't in totally horrible shape, but It needs to be seperated from the frame and I need the frame and tub sand blasted.

No body shops around want to do this - so I am going to take the tub off myself. Does anyone know a good sandblaster that can do the work on my frame / tub?

Has anyone seperated an FJ tub from frame? Is it a biotch??

Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
FFN

Its not a bad job depending on how many bolts break in the process.
Any powder coating place can blast the frame. The body may need to get soda blasted to not warp the panels.

Talk to Sean at Hot Box Powder Coating...he can help you.

For soda blasting,
Charlotte soda blasting

I've met the owner. Hadn't had a chance to get my bronco tub up to him yet. He came out and quoted me a price though.

Thanks--- I'll call them tomorrow. Any recommendations on someone for cutting out some rust, dipping and painting?? Preferably close to S Charlotte or SC.

Believe it or not- I can't find anyone to even give me a quote on separating the tub and blasting the frame and tub. If I had time I'd separate it myself, but I just know I don't have that much free time right now.

I've been to three shops and they hymn and haw and don't give me a quote and say, "Well, it's hard to say how much it will cost". I'm like, "Give me an absolute HIGH and a guess". WTF?

I can help. Sent you a PM. As far as the blasting goes, I could get it to Doug w/Charlotte Soda Blasting. Paint work is another story. I have a guy here in CLT that does good work, but you won't want to pay for him. For the kind of work you are wanting done, it won't be cheap and most places won't even do it. You'll need to talk with a restoration type of shop and not just an 'auto body' shop.

You could talk to Tyler's Body Shop. He is in Kings Mountain. It is a ride from you but he would be reasonable and he could do the work, though it isn't top quality. I bought an FJ40 off of him years back.

You are the man - I don't want it too look like a "restored" vehicle. I'm going to ditch the top and probably the doors, too. I just want to arrest the growth of rust and get the bottom tub patched and painted. I don't care if it isn't perfect. It just looks like shit right now.

Sending you a PM right now....

also if you havnt already, ih8mud has a thread with preferred shops listed by state. theres a lot more cruiser heads over there
