I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Mega cab I bought and it spent 9 years in northern Alberta Canada. I am trying to figure out a way to clean the rust off of it without having to pull the axle.

Here is a picture of what I am dealing with.

Any help would be great.

Clean it real well first, then mix up a decently strong mixture of Evapo-rust. They sell it at harbor freight/lowes/Home depot. Spray it on generously witha spray bottle and then just leave it there. So it a couple of times over the course of a week and you should see a big difference. Worked great on my wife's 4runner, though the rust on it was pretty mild.

Matt,

Thanks.

I used Evapo-rust on some stuff already that I submerged in it. I just was not sure how it would work on something as big as my axle and just spraying it on. I will pick some more up and do that.

Pressure wash and degrease, wire brush what you can. Then spray with a rust converter. I like the rustolium rust reformer. Then spray with black enamel. I've done this exact procedure quite a few times and have had exelent long term results.

Dammit why can't they come up with an affordable sandblaster for the garage!?!?

What I do on old transfer cases and axles is exactly as mentioned already. Rustoleum rust reformer.

I've seen an atachment for the pressure washer to turn it in to a sand blaster. I've thought about getting it and trying it out.

Paint it with navel jelly, wait 45 minutes & pressure wash it.
