Rustys Control Arms

Anybody have any experience with Rusty's Control arms on a TJ? My rig is my DD and weekend offroader, so i am looking for Durability first. I am considering Rustys adjustable lower control arms with rubber bushngs front and rear on my Rubi, which is lifted 3.5". Comments/Thoughts?

I have his older ones that used thin metal for the end that attaches to the body. I have broke both sides. I run poly bushings. If you don't run a lock nut they make a lot of noise, especially on the trail. I ran the nut and kept it tight but that is what broke the steel. I run them tight on the road and let them rattle on the trail. The Acme threads don't allow for a alot of adjustment. Last time I broke was about midnight on top of Daniel in URE. Made for a long trip down. Luckily I found a welder in the AM and was back on the trail by noon.

On the flip side Rusty offered to replace them but I am too lazy to send them back and wait for them to be returned. I figure I'll just keep welding them until they have a 1/2" layer of weld around them.

Junk, period...I'd go with Rubicon Express if you want to do it once and be happy with it.

I have read alot about RE bushings being not good for a daily driver, as they wear out quickly with miles...

...Great thing with RE joints is, it only takes a standard screwdriver and a hammer (or the proper spanner wrench) to fix that...
But I'm going to have to say that "quickly" is debatable.

The new RE Bushings are a different shape and stick out more on each side....which leads to them tearing. The old style more like a stock bushing was a whole lot better wear wise.

I broke mine again. I used a ratchet strap to hold it together to get me off the hill. I am going to build some long arms now.

Make them, thats what I'm doing.
Shoot, I'd make them for cheaper than these folks sell them nowadays.

I am planning to make them. I was just reading the other thread that is currently talking about them. I am building them like Rusty's long Arms and using Johnny Joints. I thought about having Rustys make custom lowers and then just weld on brackets for my uppers. If Rusty's makes the lowers with everything I want it is only $250.

i don't know about the tj arms but i am very happy with my rustys arms on my xj.
