Sad, very sad

Yep the article says it all.

MORGANTON —An 18-year-old Morganton man died Monday night on trail no. 8 in the Brown Mountain Off-Highway Vehicle area.

Alex Burleson was riding in the back of a pick-up truck on the trail when it flipped on its side, hitting him, said Stevin Westcott, public affairs officer for the U.S. Forest Service.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. The area is about 15 miles northwest of Morganton.

There were additional passengers in the back of the truck, but no other injuries or fatalities.

U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement and Burke County emergency personnel responded to the scene.

The incident is still under investigation at this time, Westcott said. He declined to release the names of the driver and passengers.

Yea, I don't recommend riding in the back of a truck ever since one of our service writers spent 8 months out of work from doing it. His girlfriend was driving, and he and our shop foreman were in the back holding down inflatable canoes they had in the back. She hooked the side of the road and over-corrected sending the truck sideways. Both men came out of the bed of the truck Kenny, (the service writer) tore off his left index and half of his left middle finger from them being hooked under the bed rail and then flew face first into a phone pole, braking his lower jaw off at the chin. (Both sides) Krent (the shop foreman) flew down the road had landed on his back cracking 2-3 vertebrae and gaining a bunch of road rash. He was only out of work for 6-8 weeks.

That trail is more like a dirt road, with a few whoops on it. They must have been hauling ass down it to turn a truck over.

I am more strick about seat belts & riding in the back offroad than I am on road. My rig doesn't move on the trail unless everyone is in a seat & buckled. On the road my kids stay in seats & buckled but there are a few flat level 5mph places we go sight seeing & wildlife watching that me & the kids ride the back while the wife drives.

And this right here is what I was talking about in the URE Stupidity thread. How I seen a bunch of kids hanging off the side of a zj while on the trails! We are not looked at as individuals, we are a community.

Man Kenny is a great guy, didnt realized you work at the BMW store, go there all the time for parts. That must have been your yota with the a/c unit in the cab!

Sadly that truck has gone to the big off road park in the sky. Well part of it. The complete drive train is now in the red 4runner in my avatar. The Lexan windshield was so bad I couldn't even polish it and see out of it so what was usable was transferred to the 4runner and the rest went to 109 U Pull It. The Air conditioner didn't make the cut either.

Yeah I remember seeing the shell by the parts entrance beat the dumpster, ac unit still attached
